we’re thinking of doing the Northern 500. We know the eastern roads, but are not sure about the west side of Scotland. We have a twin axle caravan . Standard width but 23 foot long. Any advise about which roads if any we should avoid. Thanks.

Stick to the more major roads and you should be fine but be prepared to make good use of the passing places by giving way to others. It’s easier to do in a motorhome but you’ll see other caravans along the way.

You’ll find several other threads on the NC500 in the UK Sites and Touring section.

Basically the route is do able provided you take your time and do not take the caravan off the posted route. Do book ahead as spaces can be booked up in some areas.

There is a lot of advice on the various forums and you tube which will be worth checking. Fuel stations can be a fair way apart so never travel with a low tank.
