Skoda Superb towing
hi there, I'm about to collect a Skoda superb and plan to get a towbar fitted. I've discovered on the web that some Skoda's are unsuitable and illegal to fit a towbar, so I've took a picture of the vin plate inside the bottom at the driver's door. It does show the gross train weight. Can anybody confirm this car is good to go towbar wise ? thanking you, Alan

Working on the basis that that you wouldn't load a car with 2000kgs the gross train weight surely must include towing? I would have thought a quick Google of the specs for that car would show what it can tow?

What does the V5 say about towing weights?

I read the top figure as Gross Vehicle Weight and the second figure as Gross Train Weight. So 2000kg max tow limit. It is a lack of a Gross Train Weight on the plate and the detail not listed on the V5 that has caught some potential owners out.

Exactly. If the GTW is higher than the GVW on the plate, the difference is the towing weight. I asked about the V5 in case it differs from the plate but, even if it does, I believe the plate overrides the V5.
I once had a Ford Ka and that could not tow anything (no surprise). The V5 showed 0kg for max towing weight. I’ve no idea now what the plate showed.

Alan, I tow with the Skoda Superb 2.0 petrol and I was really surprised at the comfort and ease of towing.
I was aware of the Skoda towing issues before hand, and as I understand it the GTW figure is missing on the VIN plate.
I have looked at my V5 doc and the max trailer weight is 1800kg for braked and 750kg unbraked.
