I agree WW. We are stir crazy here at times. We used to take Mum away as well, right up to 93, but the dementia got too much for her sadly. She’s 96 after Xmas. Cottages though, but we did take the MH with us as well.

I understand what you mean. Apart from three nights at Ferry Meadows in March and a night in a Premier Inn so we could attend a funeral near Southampton we have not been away at all. It just seems difficult to plan ahead especially as Margaret has had two operations on her hands this year and we has been back and forward to various health clinics with her hip there just doesn't seem the opportunity to to get away. We should think back to what we used to achieve which was much more than average?

I agree that we have had more time in our caravan than average and that was a main reason I started a blog [following your example] so that I could remind myself of how lucky we have been. The trouble is I am not ready to sit back and remind my self yet!
I have looked at hotels, air b&bs, cruises and coach trips and with each one I come up with some excuse why that wouldn't suit me. After fifty years of the freedom of caravanning I am finding it very hard to change. It would be so much easier if John would come with me; that probably is the real root of my problem.

Hope you sort out what you want but there are still options for single travellers.
My sister is on a River cruise in Vietnam and surrounding countries and my sister in law is off to safari in Kenya in November having been to Italy earlier this year as well as several UK destinations. Both are using firms who specialise in holidays for singles.
I appreciate that these are beyond many older people, but it does show what is still possible. Possibly the idea is to spend it before the tax man and your relatives get it. We have booked an 18 day cruise next year for our golden wedding and still hope to have several trips in the caravan and are looking at 2026 even now.
I admit that although we are both in our 70's we are both as fit as could be expected for our age, which is fortunate, but you have to make the most of it when you can.

Not really missing all the preparation, packing, cleaning of caravan and car
TomL, perhaps I am a bit strange but those are just part of the things I have satisfaction doing, as they mean we are getting ready to set off on another trip. It's the necessary unloading of the caravan on our return home that I least like doing.

100% agree with you Nellie. I love the getting ready and popping the little last minute bits into the van. But, as you say, I have to make myself unpack at the end of the holiday and as we have never used the van for three or four months over winter the worst is unpacking it totally for those months.

As we tour all year round we don't take everything out of the van, but there always seem to be more to be packed in for each trip than we took out on our return!!😄😄

Hi David and Jenni, Don’t be too hasty, I mean, who is going to recommend restaurants, market days, hilltop villages and, most importantly, winery’s?!!
Still remember the surreal meeting when a total stranger walks up to you on an Italian campsite and says “I know who you are”!
After first feeling sad at your news I realise, as echoed by many, that it’s a decision that has, or will soon, be facing many and we hope that you have some great holidays, whatever shape and size they are.
