C&CC to close two sites
C&CC has announced the closure of its Slindon and Minehead sites so CAMC is not alone in closing sites where income doesn't warrant further expenditure.
The same message appears on both site web pages.

Unfortunate but the club does have to balance the books and there is a limit to what they can subsidise where borderline sites are involved. My feeling that overly high prices and bad weather have hit the club this year as there seem to have been more vacancies on sites than you would expect and the management simply have to cut costs somewhere.

Which club are you talking about, WW? The principle of balancing the books applies to both and all businesses.

I have also heard of other sites under threat but this does not appear to be in the immediate future. At least the C&CC have put the closure in a little more context. FYI they had an operating loss of nearly £5 million in 2023. It will be interesting to see how the C&MC accounts look to see if they have had a similar downturn. They will be out soon.

It is a shame, and although I have no experience of the Minehead site, I did like the Slindon one but can understand why, if any had to close, the C&CC have chosen that one to close, as it is quite small, mainly (if no all) grass and is on NT land, who may of course now choose to run it themselves.

I was wondering that about the NT as they do have some form in taking back campsites and at least one CL to run themselves?
In the future I think there will be a problem for both Clubs viz a viz leased campsites. There probably will be a reluctance on the behalf of the lease holders to commit to the long term which makes it impossible for either Club to commit large amounts of members money in providing better facilities. That in turn will mean existing facilities will get worse putting off more members from visiting, a sort of vicious circle?

Yes I read a post on FB about this.Unfortunately he picked the wrong club.!!
Slindon closure is hardly a shock,yes very peaceful,but along with this Club the South East is losing yet another Club Site,meaning more usage of CL's and CS's especially in my case of not requiring site facilities.
I just wonder what the statement "Does not fit the Club's Network Model" means to quite a few of their other sites.
I see from Peedee 's post about losing £5m turnover,I wonder if this would have been lower,if they eventually got rid of their minimum night policy.

I must say that puzzled me a bit. The C&CC seem even more reluctant to discuss policy with members than the CMC? Perhaps it means that they now demand a minimum level of income from a campsite to justify keeping it open.

They have got a policy of modernising their sites. Slindon was grass pitches only and no facilities. I'm guessing it just was not economical to add a facilities block or provide hard standings. They also have a very good site Norman's Bay in the same area.

The Minehead site did not allow caravans, as access to the site is very narrow through the town, reading the site information, and it is another small site of only 50 pitches. The C&CC have another site quite close too, at Lynton.
Peedee, there are also two other C&CC site even closer to Slindon than Normans Bay, at Graffham and Chichester.

If NT are involved you will see caravans banned, if and when the site reopens.

What makes you say that, I wonder? There are NT owned site that allow caravans, Kingston Lacy, Stourhead & Dolaucoti to name a few as examples.
