Yet another suggested aires in UK comes under scrutiny from locals. Why are we so different to France?

    Cleethorpes already allow daytime parking of motorhomes not far from there although it can be a bit tight when busy. The area they are asking about is already used for parking and I cannot see what difference it would make to allow overnight  parking of motorhomes on it. I hope the council take no notice of the objections and other businesses support it.

    I would sincerely hope that if I were in an area like this that the council would take more notice of local residents and local interests, and even local businesses who might be affected, above all others.

    After all it will affect them more and on a day to day basis than passing MHs.

    The objections in my view are fairly lame. If this isn’t an ideal location for an Aire, then hopes for increasing approvals are doomed. My only concern would be the number mentioned. The area looks a bit small for 10 with reasonable spacing. Hopefully it won’t be like one we didn’t stop at recently, where the marked spaces meant you could easily shake hands with your neighbour out the widows.

    There seems to be a bit of NIMBYism here. The parking is across the road from the station, so would not block the view of it, and assuming it is resurfaced would look far better than in the photo.

    It's very difficult to understand the objections? The parking area is not in a residential area. The Light Railway might even get more custom as a result of the Aire? As ET suggests it's hardly in an appealing area!

    I’m sure they would resurface it and hopefully put it behind a payment barrier, which would only let you in if there was a space. It is after all only a place to park, visit locally, perhaps spend a night and then move on.

    I think, I may be wrong but it may be near what was the site of the defunct Jungle World which is now derelict plot, unloved and unused. I cannot see why it would be an eyesore and in fact would bring business into the town maybe even one or two customers to the Light Railway. There used to be a municipal caravan park a few hundred metres away but not sure if that is still there. 
    Forgive my French but I wasn’t sure if Aires was singular or plural but whatever it’s such a shame we can’t have a more positive outlook on the likes as do those on Continental Europe. I wouldn’t call Cleethorpes a dump mind.
