We have an Autotrail v-line 635 sport 2019 model. It seems the fridge will only work on the 12v battery when the engine is running. If during a journey we have occasion to stop for a period of time, is the only option then to set to gas? With our previous Motorhome this has never been an issue.

    That is completely normal for MHs built to the UK standard.

    If you stop for a short time, there’s no need to use gas as the fridge will hold its temperature. Even on long ferry crossings people find their fridges are OK with no power or gas at all.

    If your fridge was to run on 12v with the engine stopped it would very quickly deplete the battery and probably ruin it.  Most modern fridges will automatically change over to gas after about 10-20 minutes, assuming gas is available.  The pause is there to allow you time to refuel, etc, without the gas igniter sparking with the risk of it starting a fire. Otherwise, if on EHU, mains power will take precedence.
