Acorns (2024)

Over the past couple of weeks when on our daily walk around our local woods we have noticed that the acorns are starting to drop, they are very small and green but in great numbers.  Last year (2023) the acorns were very large. We have had a lot of rain this year along with hot, dry spells so was surprised to see such small nuts.  Has anyone else noticed/got the same?

Yep, the trouble is that they are dropping into our garden from the Oak tree that has sprung up in next doors garden so we're frantically trying to find them before they take root.

I saw a couple when out on a walk this morning and noticed how small they were. Don't think the wet summer agreed with the Oaks.

Same over here in France some trees have none on and the ones with acorns on a very small indeed but we did have a lot of rain in June agree with WN, looks like the Jays and Red Squirrels will find it hard this Autumn if not many about also same with Walnuts bad weather earlier in the year has affected a lot of trees here.
