Tour of Britain 2024
Details are being finalised for this years race, with some big names taking part, including Remco Evenepoul and Julian Alaphilippe riding for Soudal Quickstep.

Lots to be updated yet, but hopefully will be a good race. We are lucky this year, a whole Stage set in South Yorks, and then the following Stage, Derby to Newark within easy reach, so we hope to watch two days live. Clashes with La Vuelta, but still expecting to see some big names as Ineos, Bahrain Victorious, UnoX teams all turning up. Wout is a bit busy in La Vuelta at the moment, but looking forward to watching Remco. Got to be the favourite really👏👏

Cav is in both😁 That’s a very early Sky kit, looks like Cav might be in World Champs kit. That’s Brad Wiggins as well, but not sure who is chomping on what looks like a sausage roll, Bernie Eisel🤔 We watched 2012 race on Dartmoor stage. That fist Photo is a very young Cav.

Only time we have seen race in Cumbria was in 2015, when it started in Cockermouth, and finished at Floors Castle in Borders. Fabulous stage, we saw all of it from a race car, as we had won a competition to spend the whole day with the race. Fantastic insight into all the planning, what’s going on pre race, during the race and after. My OH ended up with Tyler Farrar’s watch prize, given to me for him after race. Definitely one of the best days out we have ever had, would love to do it again.

Cav was in the lead as he passed us - but couldn’t hang on to it going Beast Banks in Kendal.
In 2012 we bred two good bulls and registered them as Wiggo and Cav. Cav was a disappointment but we sold a lot of Wiggo’s semen!
I have a good photo somewhere - looking smarter than a man on a bike. But I’m wandering off topic.

OH says Sky rider on right is Luke Rowe, who is still riding for Ineos, sausage roll man might be Michael Rogers. The rider in black, next to Luke Rowe is Russell Downing, who is from our home town, and OH has climbed a few hills with him out on rides. (Guess which one had the ebike🤣)

Magnificent. Lots of little Wiggo’s all over the place I am guessing now. Brilliant story. We had a cat called Platini, named after French football captain, year they won World Cup😁

If we weren’t down on Dartmoor, or at Penzance, then The Borders was our other favourite place for watching😁 We used to take our Jeep out onto a big hill, get set up with a picnic, watch them climb past, then belt across to another viewpoint while they did a loop. We love the cycling ourselves round there, lovely place to live👍

Excellent first stage, some tactical racing and a very exciting finish. Enjoyed seeing all the lovely Scottish Borders scenery, but it was marred by not having the helicopter coverage. Glorious weather in the Borders, but the chopper was grounded at Heathrow🤷♀️ British Cycling need to rethink this element, the UK does have more than one airport🤔

Watched yesterday’s stage from just outside the NYMs C&MC site. Then raced back to watch the rest on TV. We got back in time to see the riders through Baytown and Whitby. What a brilliantly organised logistical jigsaw. Well done riders and the police motorbike squad, who pays for them? A sight to behold nevertheless.

We had a great day yesterday at the race. Got to start in Sheffield, saw all the teams, saw the start, then raced back home to pick up car to watch them ride past at a hill not far from the finish. The weather was a shocker, 14c, thick mist and drizzle, so a real Yorkshire hard stage🤣 Last of peloton was a good half hour behind the front riders. Got some great photos, including Ineos and their four Yorkshire riders, Soudal Quickstep team and Remco and his beautiful golden bike. Came home and watched most of the race going round lots of OH’s rides, and our local roads. Support on roadside was very good.

It’s back to lovely sunshine and blue skies here today, they aren’t far away, just over Derbyshire/Notts border, so hopefully pleasanter riding.
Micky, you asked about the Police Motorcyclists. This gives an insight, it’s from 2012, but the event still uses Riders from lots of different police forces, and they are a sight to behold in themselves. British Cycling also has a big team of Motorcycle Escorts/Stewards as well.

At the Tour de France Grand Depart Yorkshire in 2014, the Race was policed by French Motorcycle Gendarmes as well. They attracted a big crowd around themselves at the race finish.
