Yesterday evening I was watching the first of theTV series where Pam Ayres tours the Cotswolds and during the advert break, I was very surprised to see an advert for the Camping and Caravanning Club.  I have never seen a TV add before for either the CCC or the C&MHC (although they may have had them previously and I have simply not seen them). I envisage that the dreadful weather we have had for much of the last 10 months, coupled with site fees going up quite a bit at many sites, has been having an effect on bookings and as the CCC has far more tenting campers than the C&MHC has, then they would be more adversely affected.

I’ve seen the odd TV advert before for CCC, possibly for CAMC as well, but nothing memorable. It costs a lot of money for TV advertising, and sometimes it’s not always the best value for money, depends on who you are trying to target. I don’t think the two club’s have identical targets myself. CCC I always think more about families, bit lower budget holidays given the tent friendly approach. CAMC tends towards the big multi thousand pounds outfits, brand new, more towards the older generation primarily outside of school holidays. Both do some decent alternative accommodation though.

Not really an advert but I recall ‘Caravaner of the year’ which featured the Caravan Club, its officials and its members being broadcasted on the BBC. I for one enjoyed it and liked the fact that ‘we’ had the ability to laugh at our foibles even the president of the club at the time joined in. That I’m sure generated some advertising of a sort.
