If you have not seen it already on FB, the Club has got approval to upgrade Godrevy. A new toilet block is to be built in place of the current one and 10 service grass pitches are to be created. See >here< The site will be closed until September 2024.

No radical change to the site layout really. I note the service pitches are in the lowest area that drains last and gets the muddiest.

Interestingly, I’ve booked this site for 5 nights in June, I’ve heard nothing.

I am not familiar with the campsite but is there an obvious reason why the serviced pitches are not being made hardstanding?

Just looked on the booking section for this site and it shows pitch full until August 30th this year.

Freddy55 I suggest you contact the call centre at head office to find out re your booking.

A bit expensive for end of August nearly £42.00 a night on grass !

It’s very sandy soil, David, almost an extension of the dunes. The ground drains quickly after rain but the bottom row of pitches is at the lowest part of the site and is always the last to dry. It’s the only part I would avoid. There are no HS at all at Godrevy and I suspect it could be a planning restriction. JK may well know more having been the warden there for several years.

Thanks, TW. I suspected it might be something like that. I think they had a similar issue at Incleboro Fields but that looks as if its been overcome? Just out of interest has the NT got any influence over the situation in that area?

I had exactly the same with Tredegar park,no e-mails,no letters,no confirmation, either way, nothing, even though it was reported.

When you do contact the sites department, they read exactly what we can see on the sites page.

Not to my knowledge, David. Godrevy is NT property but the (misnamed?) club site is at Gwithian adjacent to Upton Towans as you can see on the map. I don’t know whether the nearby campsites have HS.

It does drain very well and you are very unlikely to get stuck in wet conditions but the pitches can get dire from awning carpet damage. I was a regular visitor at the end of the season when pitches can be in a terrible state. It got so bad I stopped using the site. A couple of none awning pitches were introduced, one of them is ok but in my view there should be more or a ban on awning carpets should be introduced. The latter is no real hardship.

I assume with serviced pitches the peg won't be able to be moved!

Ooops, just checked the current site plan and there are now 9 non awning pitches. That's a bit of an improvement since I was last there. That might entice me back to using the site again?

Browsing the forum over the weekend I saw this subject and having a booking to stay at Godrevy for 10 nights in May as part of a longer stay in Cornwall I was more than a little concerned. After verifying that the site did look to be closed during the period that I had made the booking, I fortunately found availability at Gwithian Farm, just down the road. It was also cheaper to stay there than at Godrevy Park where we have stayed quite a few times as we love the area and it's proximity to the beach and local facilities.

What I am really annoyed about is that the CAMC had taken my booking as recently as during the Christmas/New Year holiday and if I had not seen the postings on the club forum when would I have been informed that they were not going to honour the booking made? Perhaps too late for me to have got the alternative local site on the dates I needed?

If we like Gwithian Farm we might not be returning to Godrevy Park after it's upgrade but will stay there instead, especially as it's cheaper than the ever increasing prices that are being charged by the CAMC!

I often thought about trying Gwithian Farm but the T&Cs put me off, especially before CAMC started taking deposits. Churchtown Farm has similar T&Cs as well.

Gwithian Farm might be ok off peak but I would not touch it with a barge pole in peak, they do cram them in.

Gwithian Farm is nicely placed for the beach and the Red River Inn pub across the road. As peedee says, it's nice off peak, I stayed there in June once for a couple of rest days. Summer peak season is just like a lot of sites, rammed and noisy. We used to get complaints about the noise from our campers when we were at Godrevy, and that's a 20 minute walk away!

Churchtown Farm also in the village is more orderly but equally as noisy in peak. It does have a splendid CL across the road which has a large conifer hedge taking that noise away.

Back to Godrevy, it's so well drained there, hardstand pitches would be overkill and spoil it's character in my opinion. Probably wouldn't get planning anyway.

Pitches 36 or 60 would be my choice for non awning peedeesmile

No worries, CY, you can always join the wildcamper in the layby down the road and add to his collection of full bin bags. 👍🏻

Not by a mile CS. I've seen tents booked in between van pitches at Gwithian, all less than 2 meters apart, the site would probably be breaking lots of laws. You're not allowed to exceed the maximum pitch allocation at any time (LA rules).
