    As I understand it DPP only for CPS. Post Office and IRC, Trading Standards,  plus others ?RSPCA, bring their own prosecutions

    Those organisations certainly have the power you suggest but the DPP also has the power to intervene.

    As B2 says, it is outside of the realm of DPP/CPS but, according to the PM, that may now be reviewed. It’s a historic thing dating back to pre-privatisation days when many nationalised industries could operate under different rules. They follow PACE procedures but do not need to involve the Police or CPS. 

    Edit: we crossed. I don't defend any politician or Govt but why would the DPP intervene when The Post Office assured everyone they were dealing with the situation?

    This is quite an interesting article in Computer Weekly It seems that computers are classed as being reliable unless it can be proved otherwise. As this case illustrates it is very difficult to prove "the system" faulty without have full access to information. If one side makes that difficult/impossible it becomes very difficult to prove anything.

    As soon as it become apparent that there may have been various travesties of justice the DPP could have ordered a legal review.

    I think that you may be confusing civil law with criminal law.  I can assume that computer weekly is referring to civil law.

    The DPP being head of the CPS would probably perceive the issue as being beyond his realm and, as I think we’re all now seeing, it’s only recently the range of the travesty has been revealed. Anyway, we both speculate and cannot know the reasons or possibilities. I’m sure, if DPP intervention was thought to have been overlooked, then awkward questions will be asked where it matters.

    I don't think I am confusing anything? The Bill in question is the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 so hardly civil law, or have I got that wrong?

    I've just read she's been shortlisted for Bishop of London, pushed by the Archbishop of Canterbury!

    Not taken much to get her apology...... 😡

    She was shortlisted back in 2017, B2, but didn’t get the job.

    Couldn't find the report when I went back to BBC page, headlines were her CBE.

    Was surprised as I glanced at the headlines. Oh course we have a woman as Bishop of London DOH!
