Last year I insured my car through the caravan club, it cost £271 for the year full comprehensive, my renewal came through this week £670 no claims made no changes to details except I reduced the value of my car.

I called them they said they could reduce it by £10 as a gesture of good will, I went to a compare site and got same cover £370.

Did they not laugh when they offered the £10 off?

I know car and home insurance shot through the roof as I renewed a home insurance just recently at 47% increase. Couldn't find a cheaper comparative quote.

    Getting ridiculous.

I never, ever, pay the premium quoted in my renewal letter, whether it be car, home, or caravan insurance. Always use a couple of comparison sites then go back to existing insurers and negotiate. Then at some reduced level you might think it's not worth the trouble to change to a different company but you'll always pay less than the renewal figure.

Reading this reminded me of an email I got from my car insurance recently. The point of the email was just to mention that car insurance costs have gone up by average  of 43% in the last year which is quite frightening! My insurance is not due until next month and I have changed my car since the last renewal so I am expecting bad news. Having said that the OP's insurance has more than doubled in price which seems at odds with the "average increase" mentioned by my insurers. In the past when I have got quotes from the Club for motor insurance I have never found them very competitive.

I have just got my quote for next year from John Lewis, up a £116 on last year which is not too bad considering the change of car. Having said that I did try a couple of quotes from elsewhere and was rather shocked by how much they were, the cheapest was a £100 more!

I always shop around but usually end up coming back to the same handful of companies. Earlier in the year year somebody, not seen, reversed? into the front of my car whilst in a car park, so I had to claim. My policy is protected no claims but fully comp this year jumped from £214 to £288. I shopped around and could only get one quote anywhere near this, the majority at least £100-150 more expensive.

We had the same as other's on here MH insurance up 117% with Saga.

Shopped around and got it for just a bit more than last year with LV. At that time they couldn't give us a multi car policy as the car we had then they wouldn't cover.

When we changed the car after selling the caravan, we contacted LV again to see if the car could be added to the MH policy and become a multi vehicle policy. No problem Sir, very happy with their price.

Home insurance has always been with the club so we get the 90 days, it was fair this year when we renewed will see what next year brings.

We have been with many different companies over the years, including LV, Aviva, Admiral, NFU, Zurich, Alliance, M&S, one year through the Club and one year via our bank, we never usually stay with the same company more than a year.

Last year, when I hit 80, there was a significant increase, but OH could not find anything better (multi car with Admiral)  so we renewed.  This year, just in October, it was well up again, but she managed to negotiate a reduction.  Plus, by removing SIL from all policies (no longer a need to have him on as we were about to change one car), we made further large savings.

10 days after renewal we changed the Smart for a VW T-Cross, the additional annual premium was about £16, which we were surprised at.

OH had thought that LV might offer a good price, but they refused to quote due to my age!

Home insurance renewal due 1st January, we are with our bank (Halifax), the increase is 28%, but again it was very competitive for the level of cover offered, so we will be staying with them.    Even adding it to our Admiral multi policy was much more expensive.    We have 60 days away covered, which is OK for us these days.

My everyday/tow car insurance renewal this month has increased by around 50% and then I advised them that following some idiot having driven into my classic car whilst I was driving on an A road and the claim not yet settled, added a further nearly £300 ,reclaimable when the claim is settled!!!!

Don't you just love insurance companies. Heads they win, tails you loose. Think about it.
