    A boyhood hero of mine and undoubtedly the finest English player of his generation. A true gentle man in the truest sense of the expression. I saw him play just once when his Man Utd team, in decline at the time were knocked out of the cup by Bristol Rovers, must have been early 1970's I think.

    Another of the 1966 heroes passes, only one left now.

    RIP - Sir Bobby, you leave us with so many great sporting memories.

    I must admit I shed  tear when I heard the news. I understand they (the England players) got paid £50 for winning the final. I think that is quite telling. RIP Bobby, you were my boyhood (and beyond) hero.

    Fabulous player, and what a great example for any aspiring player. Somewhere, up at Mum’s, I have his autograph, along with that of another Busby legend, Georgie Best. Dad saw them both play regularly, but would never take me. The terraces at Elland Road were deemed unsafe for a little girl. A true legend of the game.

    Watched Match Of The Day last night and Pep Guardiola gave a very moving, heartfelt tribute to Bobby.
