Touring without booking ahead?

We want to tour the old way at the end of the mouth, i,e not book ahead and stay on a night to night basis's. So under the new fantastic booking system, are we aloud to turn up with a membership card and pay on site. I promise not to arrive on any site until 13.00. I know the answer might be buried in the rules, but wading through paperwork isn't my thing. Can anyone help

    This was answered recently, and yes you are allowed but there might not be pitches available.

    A better idea would be to use the app/website on the day or night before.

    Of course you can turn up but you may find it difficult to find a pitch over the weekend if the weather forecast is good, as I found out yesterday when I wanted to book from tomorrow for the following week.

    Why restrict yourself to club sites? Tbere are many and varied other sites in the world that are as good as, and many times even better, than club sites. 

    Try https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/ for a comprehensive list that you can filter your search to find exactly the pitch you want.

    Yes, you can, as said, as long as there is a pitch available.

    Will obviously depend on the weather and how popular your destination is.  

    At the Club site we have just left, there was plenty of space, though it was slightly busier than we had expected, possibly because it was one of those offering a discount.

    We had booked as we were there to visit friends, but the MH ahead of us in the queue had arrived without booking.  

    There was a fair turnover of MHs, possibly several who had not booked, and one sited beside us who obviously was very new to the vehicle ( could not figure out how to deal with the toilet fluid), and who had not listened properly to the pitching instructions........ignoring the 2 white pegs and parking all the way over to one side of the pitch!

    The first site on our trip was a commercial and it was very busy, very few empty pitches, only the ones that would take only a smaller caravan or MH.  Very well priced at £26 per night for a serviced pitch and good quality facilities.

    Assuming you are talking Club Sites here?

    Yes, you can just turn up, but as Corners mentioned, you need to clue up a bit around which Sites might be more popular (for example Baltic Wharf, York Rowntree Park, Chatsworth) and which Sites are a lot quieter. You also need to consider if you are staying in the week, or at a weekend, if schools are on holiday, or if there are any events on close by, as all these can affect how busy (or not) a site is likely to be. Another factor might be how adaptable are you in terms of type of pitches required?

    We won’t be booking any Club Sites, but might turn up on spec if it’s a good option and we have a back up plan B we can use. It’s our intention to have a couple of nights at Cayton Village mid November to be with friends who have a Glamper booked. I am confident there will be a pitch at CV for our dates, might glance at availability early November, but if we do book, it will be on the morning of our departure merely so we can get through reception quickly. 

    We haven’t found the Club Sites we have seen anything like as busy as usual this year, so as I say, with a bit of research and knowledge, we can happily not get tangled up too much in the new booking scheme and deposits.

    End of October/early November is Autumn half term week in most of England, so be aware.

    If you are going after October half term should not be a problem although you did not specify any particular area.

    We have just spent 2 months in Devon/Cornwall June/September and visited several sites just out of curiosity CAMC and commercial whilst we were out for the day, almost all were only 50-75 pct full so just rocking up should not be a problem.

    I think some sites close end October - so be aware.

    TDA....You should not have any problem booking in mid Nov ...we have just cancelled our booking at CV...now meeting up with friends at Browns just up the road at half the price.

    We were there in March (3rd week), place was virtually empty. Top half was closed and very little usage on the bottom section ...a couple of dozen RVs plus a couple of glampers. Big sign outside reception saying you can extend your stay !!!

    Thanks for this, much as I thought it might be.👍 Our friends are going in a Glamper, and we haven’t managed to get away with them since the beginning of COVID, so it’s all about being with them, otherwise it’s unlikely we would be going to CV. But we shall enjoy our couple of nights, we like Scarborough, haven’t been for a while. 🙂
