Repairing a Heiki Mini Rooflight

On our recent holiday in France the Heiki Mini Rooflight (the one with the mesh and blind which meet in the middle without a spring tension) broke.  The sliding pieces were loose and would not meet in a straight line - I hope that describes the problem!  A quick search on Google showed how to repair it.  The sliding pieces are 'tensioned' by string which is routed through very flimsy plastic guides 2 of which had broke.  DO NOT REMOVE THE STRING FROM THE UNIT.  After carefully prising the inner piece of the Rooflight off I just used very small self tapping screws, after drilling  guide holes with a 1mm bit, and refitted the string around them.  Sprayed the strings with Silicone spray and hey presto now sliding as good as new.  The whole job took about 15 mins cost nothing and saved me over £160 for a replacement.  It also allowed me to give the hidden parts a good clean!  A little fiddly refitting the string but if I can do it anyone can!!

    Well Comyress you’ve confirmed something which I’ve experienced for a very long time - being able to repair our leisure vehicles goes beyond economy, it’s vital for getting on with our holidays. That’s particularly true for foreign touring.
