We need a new battery, and they're expensive things, so I'd like to know I'm not being ripped off!

    if you know the make, type and size of battery you can order on line. If you want advice you can go to your local tyre and battery dealer and talk it over.

    I agree. Purchased two batteries from them and excellent service in both cases. Interestingly one of the few companies to despatch wet cell vented batteries without charging enormous sums for delivery.

    Definitely very good advice.  My Eldiss Autoquest is 19' 2" long but surprisingly, the space for the battery is very small so it only just fits.

    Tanya batteries enjoy a very good reputation.  But you can get leisure batteries almost anywhere (Halfords etc).  Absolutely essential you go armed with your battery box dimensions!

    Arriving back at the van, a few weeks ago, to the tell tale rotten egg smell was doubly dissapointing as the batter was just one year old.

    I contacted the supplier, more in hope than expectation, expecting to be fobbed off, but I was put through to their technical dept and after a few questions to establish that it has been correctly used I was told a new one would be with me the next day!

    It was and this is the rview I put on Trustpilot for Alpha Batteries;

    Superb Service
    Contacted Alpha this week after a 12 month old leisure battery failed.
    Was put through to Scott who, after asking questions to establish the fault, said he would send a replacement battery-which arrived the next day!
    Superb service.

    Are you sorted yet? Last piece of advice would be buy from those battery specialists mentioned. They will be dealing and storing batteries correctly. You don’t want to be buying a battery that’s been sitting around a while just waiting for you to buy it!

    It is not only about size but also make sure the terminals are the ones you require to fit. Another vote for Alpha Batteries, got my last one from them. Lots of advice on their web site.

    Morning

    Some good advice already given.

    If you always use sites with electric hook up, why not just get a battery of the correct size from somewhere like Halfords? I had a small 80ah leisure battery from the local Halfords on my caravan for 7 years with no issues.

    If your van's in storage for any length of time take the battery for a charge now and again.
