Jockey wheel sticking!

Hi everyone, our last trip gave us a new challenge, the jockey wheel was not just dropping to the ground when we released the clamp. A lot of jiggling and use of a few choice words and a knife and it eventually dropped. Has any one had the same issue and if so any tips?!
