Low Emissions Zones
This is for everyone who drives a vehicle regardless of type, this a very important message various councils around the country have brought in LOW EMISSIONS ZONES or ULTRA LOW EMISSIONS ZONES if you wish to enter these you will have to pay a charge and if you unknowingly enter them and do not pay the charge you will be informed by the various councils what fine you will have to pay.
The important message is that the mainstream media has at no time publicised what the sneaky councils have been busy doing through lockdown and what other plans they have in store for driving motorists off the road, more information on this subject can be found on the net and YouTube.

Sheffield now has a LEZ. It was well publicised though, doesn’t affect private vehicles, but does include MH’s.
The devil is in the detail of most LEZ’s. Pays to read carefully if you include any City driving.

and if you unknowingly enter them and do not pay the charge you will be informed by the various councils what fine you will have to pay.
For the ones we have so far entered you would have to be driving with your eyes shut to miss the signage and instructions to pay online if required. So far for our Euro 6 MH it has come up no charge.

They are all well publicised and it’s a good move to cut pollution and bring cleaner air.👍

"The important message is that the mainstream media has at no time publicised what the sneaky councils have been busy doing through lockdown ..."
When Bath and Bristol introduced this it was certainly all over the local news well in advance and there was national news coverage of Manchester's plans, later postponed, at the time. So I fail to see how you can claim that! It's very easy to check on the gov.uk website (a) if a city has such a zone and (b) if your vehicle is exempt or if you have to pay. I agree with the previous post, a good and necessary measure to improve the quality of life and health of those who live in the affected areas. A recent report said that air quality in Bath had improved by as much as 80% in some areas since the introduction of the LEZ. A perfect example of "make the polluter pay" IMHO. 👍

I drove round Manchester last week North to East (M61,M60, M63). There were huge signs on the motorway long before you got to the city stating the ULEZ is in place and payment would need to be made if you left the motorway. Was super clear. The Manchester zone is not yet active, but the warning could not have been clearer.

I like the German Umvelt system which operates nationwide and doesn't involve any charges but just bans certain vehicles from entering certain zones. It probably wouldn't suit some local authorities here because there is no money in it for them!

The modern internal combustion engine gives out gases that will not kill people! These charges are really just a way for councils to top up their income whilst putting visitors off visiting the town centre shops etc.(obviously in my opinion)We could go back to horses and carriages but we dont have the person power to pick up the manure!

It is older engines which pollute the atmosphere and cause harm to people. That is why the most modern engined vehicles are exempt from charges.

Might be best to ask this question in the Overseas Touring section as not everyone comes to this area of the forum.

DD has a problem with her car and LEZs.
Her Volvo V40 is registered in late 2002, so, according to all the blurb, as it was registered pre 2005, will fail the Euro4 requirement.
However, when she puts her registration number into the checker, it says she is OK for all LEZs in the country.
We are all very confused by this, and she does not want to get a fine. How can she check that she is being given the correct information?

If the website says its OK why doesn't she take a screenshot so that she can use that in evidence in the event of there being any question?

Yes, she can do that, but there is some small print at the bottom that says they cannot guarantee that the information given is correct.......so a get out for the official number plate checker site.
As the fine is £60, she wants to be sure.
Personally, I think it could be a mistake as all the info we have found re the car seems to say it is Euro 3.
Here in Glasgow, unfortunately, her office, with parking that she, as a team leader, can book, is about 100m inside the LEZ. Normally she works from home, but does have to go to the office about once a fortnight. There is no available nearby parking outside the zone.
Her alternatives are to borrow one of our cars, or take a bus, the latter not ideal as she has to drop off the children at nursery first.

Transport for London has a good website defining the different zones -LEZ, ULEZ, Congestion - and you’ll find similar sites for each UK city with emission zones.

Your other post in the overseas section should bring forth responses for Spain itself.

More an Event destination than a holiday destination, but anyone coming to Sheffield needs to read up and be aware. Around half a million pounds raked in via fines one way or another in just three months. Scheme obviously has some teething issues, reading about some folks experiences. We can no longer use our MH to take pooch to vets, like we used to do, (using the day as a day out in Derbyshire Peaks), we now have to use Jeep instead. It’s 25 minutes from home to vets in a vehicle. Would be around 2 hours on public transport. The catch 22 is that we couldn’t get his chariot onto a bus, tram or train, so we have no choice anyway. (Specialist vet, in case anyone is wondering).

I am intending to attend the afternoon performance of the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London if I can get tickets. I can't do overnight stays because I have to be back for Parade on Sunday, and as train fares for 4 of us are horrendous, I wondered if there is a member living just outside the London Emission Zones but with good rail/underground connections to central London/Kensington who would let me park my car outside or on their drive for a few hours on 11Th November?
