Solar Power
Hi all,
I was wondering if it's at all possible to run the 240v system in a caravan with portable solar panels and if so what would the cost be? I know very little about solar power other than the one on our van does nothing but keep the battery topped up. We have a Swift Sprite Super Quattro EB.
The reason I'm asking is because I find that the vast majority of 2 children's cycle race tracks" AKA CAMC sites are getting very expensive, with some CL's catching up on the prices. I'm thinking that if I can power the caravan fully I could use the CL's with no hook up.
Thanks for reading.

Check out the following thread and others within the same section. Also, the CL section has a sticky thread of CLs without EHU.

We have a panel van not a caravan, but I guess most of the principles are the same. Two burner cooker, no oven or microwave. I20w solar panel and a 230ah lithium battery, decent solar controller to "collect" as much solar as possible. Compressor (not three way) fridge. We tend not to stay more than 3 or 4 nights on a site. Not using hook up is fine from April to September. For us the lithium was needed instead of lead acid because a compressor fridge runs entirely on the leisure battery and eats power Running fridge, heating, hot water on gas and cooking on gas will mean you dont use much battery at all - it will be powering lights, pump, usb ports. None of this allows 240v sockets to be used. For that you need an inverter. We use lots of CLs and CSs and when possible dont use hook up.
