Faking damp scam when selling motorhome
The FAKE damp scam.
BEWARE. BEWARE
Was introduced to a pair of gentlemen that arrived on behalf of the female Enquirer to purchase motorhome at an agreed price.
One gentleman ushered me to open the rear storage hatch whilst the other disappeared and entered the habitation area.
Immediately damp meters were produced and tested a known target in storage door.
Then I was escorted to the Habi area, to my amazement shown water running down the inside of locker cupboards.
Was told the roof was badly leaking and required £9000 of repairs which they proposed taking off the agreed price and drive the vehicle away.
Smelling a rat acted shocked and dismayed, apologised for the unnecessary trip and indicated I cannot sell in such a state
Funnily enough this spooked the buyer who insisted he accepted the fault and will pay.
I repeated no sale as it will be taken to our caravan repairer . THEY PROMPTLY LEFT.
When my wife looked in Habi area she exploded seeing the water laden cupboards since 30 minutes earlier she had polished these DRY cupboards.
We believe a water spray was used and the idiot sprayed a plastic loudspeaker enclosure along with cabin fabric trim over windscreen.

It does but perhaps not to the extent of spraying water around🤷🏻♂️. Mind you, there are dealers and dealers🙁

I’ve only come across the dodgy type🤷🏻♂️🙁. “Yes sir we’ll give you X as a trade in” deposit is paid, I rock up for the new van to be told-“sorry sir we can only offer you 50% of the X we offered because we found extensive damp on further inspection” it soon became apparent it was a ‘trick of the trade’. Never again👎🏻

That happened to us as well but to a lesser extent than 50%. I can’t remember how we resolved it but we came away satisfied with the deal.
