Northern Spain and Western France.
We are just back from a 26 night trip which started on the Plymouth to Santander ferry, took us to the Picos Europa mountains in Northern Spain, on to the Costa Verde (Green Coast - facing North) then on to the Atlantic coast of Spain (facing West), taking in a day trip to Santiago de Compostela along the way. Then a long drive back to Madrid, on to Zaragoza which was unscheduled but an amazing surprise, a few nights in the Pyrenees, on to the sandy beaches of the French coast and on to the Ile D'Oleron for a lovely relaxing end to the holiday. Then another long drive to Caen for the ferry back to Portsmouth.
There were some fantastic drives in this holiday, the highlights probably being the Picos mountains, the long drive across the Spanish interior, and the Pyrenees crossing. Lovely beaches too including that at Muros where we watched a school of about 20 dolphins playing about 50m offshore.
Also some fantastic places to stay - mainly on independent sites (some CAMC approved but not all) with a few nights wild camping the highlight of which was Aire de Zaragoza, a fully serviced, totally free, council run aire literally 50m from the tram stop into the historic centre and 150m from a large Carrefour. Thoroughly recommended but you need to arrive mid afternoon or it gets full (for obvious reasons).
2,500 miles of driving in our 5.9m long Carado motorhome called Van Morrison.
