have just tried out my new Bailey Phoenix 644 caravan. It has a fixed bed that slides out for night time use. With the bed in that position it is impossible to get past at the base to access the toilet. Has anybody else had this problem?

I guess that’s why the bed slides in by day.

Sorry if that appears flippant but I thought to give access by day was the whole point of it sliding with the implication that there won’t be room to pass with it extended.

I've never been a fan of these slide out beds. Most are 6ft 3inch in the middle, which is way too short if you're 6 ft tall, and this is restricted further by the curvature at the end. You have to sleep with your head hard against the bulkhead, and access around them is restricted in night mode. Unless you sleep on the toilet side, then you'll have to climb over your partner at night.

We have a corner bed which is 6ft 5, and perfect for us both for sleeping, but still requires me shuffling off the end at night if I need the loo. Sadly, no-one appears to do this layout now, which surprises me. If I was in the market now, I don't know what I would buy.

Hi Tinwheeler, so you don't need to get to the loo at night  I've had 3 vans all with the same layout and you can get passed at night without disturbing the sleepers.

As a matter of interest, before you purchased the van didn't you look to see how far the bed extended?undecided

As Nellie suggested, surely you tried it before you bought rather than assuming it was the same?
