New van production delays

We’ve just had our Elddis delivery with Glossop Caravans cancelled again. Fourth time. Originally scheduled for late April build. Latest date now September. Not holding my breath. Have also had to cancel five Club bookings which makes me feel guilty but there’s nothing we can do about it. Particularly galling as dealer didn’t want a part exchange so advised us to sell privately which we did back in March and we’ve been vanless ever since. Anyone else experiencing this delay?

There are lots of stories on Facebook of people having to wait, particularly with motorhomes because of a shortage of base cabs. There are also shortages of basic components, usually from Europe, so Elddis may well be able to build the van but are probably having issues with basic supplies. I find it a bit unusual that the dealer wasn't willing to take your van in part exchange?

Hymer, who own Elddis, have in normal times taken there time to get vans produced. Our 2007 Eriba took 7 months for a factory build as did our 2017 Eriba.

Hymer are trying to catch up on 2022 orders, to the extent that dealers are not happy or prepared to take a 2023 order, unless it matches something on their books already allocated a build slot.

The dealers I have visited in UK and NL a month ago could not promise a 2023 delivery.

I would say cancel your order and get your deposit back, but costs have gone up about 5% for a 2023 van and that will hurt. Having said that, if you can find a van you like that you can physically touch and stand in, I'd take it.

Not always the case as we ordered ours 6th June, can was at dealers by 8th July when we were away and we picked it up on 27th. So I guess it depends on both the make of caravan and the dealers allocation.

Even when we bought our Hymer MH back in  2019, we were told by the dealer that if we wanted to go ahead with the vehicle we had specified, it would be a minimum of a year and they wouldn’t be able to guarantee the price because of potential changes due to Brexit. In the end they were able to supply a vehicle with a similar specification and add on most of the options we wanted. We took delivery within 3 months.

We waited 8 months for our van.  Our neighbours who have ordered a similar van collected it this week after 9 months.

I ordered an electric car 9 months ago and still don't even have a date for it....

Not enough components and too many wealthy people. Demand is still outstripping supply......
