Fort William !
It is some 17 years since we visited Bunree site and Fort William , the site is a stunning place for a base camp to travel and see the wonderful sights this part of the Highlands has to offer .
We are always very careful when parking to ensure that we are considerate to others wishing to park and even though all of the motorhome bays were being used on our arrival we made sure that we did not impede others wishing to park and parked well away from others . Plenty of space was available .
On returning to the car park we were greeted by another couple in a caravanette to tell us that an overzealous warden had been around and issued penalty notices to as many motorhomes and caravannettes as he could including themselves for parking a wheel on the lane line . The irony was that the warden issued the ticket whilst the couple were sat in the driver seats . When confronted the warden lied and said he had not seen them in the seat ,nevertheless he issued a penalty notice for £60 . It is clear from these actions that motorhomes and caravannettes are not welcome in Fort William , for us we will not be giving them our trade in future .
Check the blogs for parking in Fort William before you decide to stay in Fort William is my advice . Very disappointing and sad to see the actions of the Highlands Council with regard to parking . We had intended to go on the Jacobean steam railway to Mallaig the following day but instead decided not to bother in fear of this overzealous warden issuing further penalty notices .
Moderator Comment - As this contains a warning about parking I thought more people would see it in the UK Sites and Touring Section.
