If you look up the Glenmore lease for sale it gives some indication of the finances involved, the length of lease etc however this is standard practice and there are many campsites in the UK up for lease or sale. Glenmore has permission for lodges too. As I said on the previous thread the previous arrangements probably benefitted both parties but maybe when leases are up the new arrangements may not suit the lessee or vice versa. Other than a bit of speculation on here I hope the process resolves in due course.

Was that ever run by the C&CC, or always by CitF?

Not completely sure on that Nellie, memory is vague on that must be thirty or more years ago we first stayed there. However, that link remains and I’m told that staff are in the dark regarding their future and could be moving across to the C&CC.

We also used the Balmacara site all those years ago. Beautiful setting, a shame that was closed.

Nellie. Glenmore is C&CC run at present, a nice site and well used all year round. Used to see hardy tent campers in the depths of winter when we lived up there. smile

To all intents and purposes, pardon that pun, it is C&CC. They operate exactly the same practices, their uniforms, not a hi-vis in sight which is so pleasing and relaxing to the eye, are all badged as CitF.

I stayed here in the early 90s and it was definitely was not C&CC then.

I suspect that some, if not all, will end up under the Forest Holidays umbrella https://www.forestholidays.co.uk/

Beddgelert, which was Forestry Commission, then CITF (CCC) has gone this way, coming off the CITF network around 5 years ago. The money is in luxury lodges, not touring pitches.
We drove around Beddgelert some three years ago, as it was somewhere always top of our Welsh campsite list. We wouldn’t stop there now. The few touring pitches it has now are tiny, in deep shade and infested with mozzies. The Lodges now occupy the best land, and they are nice, but expensive.
Spiers House campsite, Cropton Forest in North Yorks, another Forestry Commission campsite went this way back in the early 2000’s, although probably for a different reason, being an absolute swamp after rain. Now all Lodges.

We've stayed with Forest Holidays,  I assumed they are all cabins/lodges. I see Delamere now has a lodge area, sounds like this is the way things are going. However other camp sites are available. smile

What other organisations in this country, other than the two Clubs could manage 10 sites?

Are we likely to see them run by a foreign Company?

Numerous organisations, PD. Look at all the commercial operators such as Haven and Parkdean for starters. I know, I know but they’re out there.

We used to stay on a John Fowler estate, they run a number of sites, admittedly not camping and caravanning, but it’s more about managing resources than specifics. We used a holiday cottage, privately owned that was within one of the JF locations, and very nice it was too. Access to all the extras like the pool, the eateries, the sports facilities. Any big leisure franchise could operate the sites. I know, I used to work for one.

Sherwood Pines is super popular, used by hundreds of thousands of folks for lots of different activities. Center Parcs (another provider) is next door. Serves South Yorks, Lincolnshire, Notts, Derbyshire conurbations, so millions of folks.

I completed surveys for Forest and Land Scotland this morning. Helping hopefully to encourage them to maintain and expand the “Stay a Night in the Forest” initiative. Which incidentally does include caravans at some locations, not just MHs/ campers.

We used to stay at Forestry Commission sites in the Forrest of Dean, fabulous sites, don't know if they are still in operation.

Spot on! must have stayed there a dozen times or more when the boys were little. they would go down to the PGL The Biblins outward bound course as my mate was an instructor. Fabulous times alas 45 + years ago.
