Virgin trip

Well, that might have got your attention!  Lol

We have recently bought our first caravan and are planning our first trip to a local campsite so we can always pop back if we forget anything.  But I am trying to think of all the things we will need (2 adults and Rebus the dog).

I've got washing up liquid, sponges, dishtowels, soap, toiletries, bin bags.

Anything else we might need that we've missed?

We will be eating out a lot and doing lots of walking to negate the calories.

Thank you

Jane

Kitchen paper. We get through loads when we're away as it’s easier and less messy to use paper to wipe up than cloth products.

Excellent, thank you.  I hadn't thought of that.

Batteries, chargers for phones and tablets, tablets of the medication sort, dog tab with mobile number on it, poo bags, security devices, emergency telephone numbers for banks etc., breakfast, milk etc. (farm shops are available), maps, things to do, a list of all items you definitely need to take ( we've forgotten coats and even wallets  and locking the house up on previous outings)

Have you told your car insurer that you have a towbar fitted?

    Good luck.

Remember everyone was a Virgin once ( well, except that strumpet at No. 59surprised)

laughing Thanks for the tips.  Hubby is in charge of the IT gadgets.  As for poo bags, I don't think I have a piece of clothing that doesn't have a stash of poo bags in the pockets - that and dog treats.

Thanks for the tips.  We're just hoping we remember to take all the security features and the handbrake off before we try to drive off!

Small first aid kit……human and canine😁 Ours just stay in the outfit, and we replenish as required. Plasters, bandages, lint, TCP/Savlon, painkillers. Doggy one includes a Vetwrap bandage, some Hibiscrub, swabs, plus all our ageing pooch’s meds. We always look out for nearest Vet’s when away somewhere new, thirty odd years of travelling with pets means we have used a few down the years😯

Rebus is a handsome chap, we have the chocolate gene to contend with🤣 Mad, basically.

👍🏻, there’s a Dog lover right there😊. They come out the wash ok too, PS they went in the wash inside every garment with pockets & totally unused. I thought I needed to put that out there😂😂

Bottle opener and tin opener!  Over the years we have developed a long list of things to take or at least to check whether we need them or not.  It is too long to list heresealed  Very wise to go local for your first trip.  Ensure you try everything in the caravan and if you have an awning put it up.  Importantly don't be reluctant to ask for help; you may well find that someone will offer help if they see you struggling putting up the awning.  When we arrive on site after levelling the caravan our order of doing things is - connect electrics, fridge on mains, fill aquaroll and fit wastemaster, turn on hot taps to fill water heater and then turn it on.  Then take a deep breath and put up the awning; however, if it is raining wait until it stops before putting up the awning.  Table/chairs out then have a cup of tea or more likely a glass of beer!

Thanks for all the advice. It is much appreciated.  We're off to Grantown on Spey this week, about an hour from home.  We don't have an awning yet.  We've done a test run of everything on the driveway and yes, I am sure that we will ask and receive help if we need it.

    Thanks again.

Enjoy Jane and Iain...  I'd be interested to hear how you get on.  We're taking the caravan to Grantown-on-Spey during this summer.....

I don't know if anyone mentioned a mini spirit level and some small wooden ramps to level the caravan.

Pillows, bedding, towels, tea bags, Crocs (essential caravan wear 😂) wet-weather gear (and warm clothes) kettle, pans. These are just a few of the items we have forgotten in the past! Enjoy your trip 👍

Anyone mentioned clothes pegs?! They seem to come in handy for various things. smile

Enjoy Grantown, it's a good base for the Cairngorms National Park.

If you have a auto engage motor mover fitted, don't forget the remote.

Don't forget the remote for any type of motor mover, remember to disengage the mover before starting to tow, and don't leave the remote on the ground when moving off.😄

    Hi DSB,

Well we're here.  We had two stops on the way (from home to here is about 28 miles).  First one was about a mile from home as we got a trailer indicator according to the car dashboard after that time.  The indicator was working but we wonder if maybe one bulb has gone.

The second one was to check that we had removed the isolation key on the motormover.  (We had.)

Things we wish we'd brought but didn't were spare food bags for items we hadn't finished eating.  We did have some tupperware dishes but food bags would have been useful and the ohter one was clips to hold crisp bags shut after opening them.  Minor in the big scale of things.

We had a slight problem with the hose pipe coming off the aqua roller which happened when we were out. Our neighbour turned the water off and we sorted it when we got back.

Grantown on Spey camp site was very welcoming. The warden took us to our pitch, checked we were happy with the electrics etc (we'd explained this was our maiden voyage).  The site is very clean and quiet.   The toilet/shower block is immaculate and there is good space between all the pitches.

All in all we feel we have had a successful first trip and looking forward to our next one.

    Jane

I assume you were on a serviced pitch?
I always turn the tap off on a serviced pitch when going off site, having had a hose come off previously, fortunately I was on site at the time.
