There wasn’t even a gas bottle box on mine. 1949, 10’ long and as basic as could be.

In 1979 we were still using my Mum & Dads handed down Lamont frame tent with the 'luxury' of a caravan not arriving till 1991.
When you see things like this it reminds you how precious photos are.

Can’t match that but here’s a 1996 pic of our first ever new van and oldest Grandchild.
She, and all our 8 grandchildren, loved the van and it’s quite emotional when they talk about their memories and how they loved camping.
She will be 30 in May, but I don’t feel old, honest!!

The first caravan in my case was very second hand in 1974. A friend and I got together to split the purchase cost of £30. It was so small that once the seats were made into a double bed, there was only enough floor space for one person to stand up! It seemed smaller than the Series 1 Land Rover that I used to tow it.

I have been on 2 sites, Brighton & Moreton the Marsh, where the peg has been placed at or near to one of the rear corners. Thought this was a good idea particularly for motorhomes as it gives a lot of amenity outside the door especially on non-awning pitches.

I don't mind that arrangement providing they don't put the peg right in the corners as that means you are walking on the grass to get to your offside services.
We have just returned from Ferry Meadows where they have introduced the two peg system. Wandering around the site suggest that everyone is pitching correctly between the pegs!

The new pegging system is to make things 'simple'....obviously...can't have members pitching where they like, even if it is compliant with the safety rules....perhaps not compliant with the pegs.
I can see where you're coming from (we have loads of experience of parking/pitching in many and various scenarios from huge pitches to tightly packed Aires) but the Club isn't the sort of organisation that does 'flexible' im afraid.

Perhaps you would have had a better response if you had talked over what you wanted to do first. It does mention doing this at the bottom right of the pitching diagram.

I did try discussing it but all I got was the stock response of “It’s not how we want you to pitch” which is a sentence but not an explanation. I remained very reasonable, reiterating the fact I was not breaching any rule or regulation and trying to understand why they wanted me to pitch differently but they would not discuss it.

The only issue I would say with the new 2 peg system is that the area on the left (as you look at the pitch) is smaller than the right.
This is fine if you park the outfit in the standard way ie reverse British style vehicle into pitch. This gives you the bigger side where you would be sitting out or erecting an awning or canopy.
However if you have a foreign van then you have little space to erect an awning or canopy.
We have a British style MH but often pitch nose in as this aids levelling the van without need of using ramps. If we were to do so on one of the 2 peg pitches we would have a vast wasted space at the wrong side of the van and insufficient space to deploy the canopy at the other side.

We have stopped on quite a few with two pegs now and have found that it varies, I assume depending on maintaining the 6 metre RV separation on tighter spaced sites. On most pitches it has been how you describe, although there have been some where the space has been larger to the left instead. However on sites where there is more room we have found the pegs generally centrally spaced and enough spare space between the pegs to have a huge space on the awning side which ever way you go in.
