We were sad to receive a cancellation of our booking for Laggan CL for September.  Apparently they need to reapply for planning permission which they think they are unlikely to get.  Such a shame for the owners and visitors alike.  The site looked amazing and we were looking forward to our stay.  Fortunately we can look elsewhere but for the owners it must be a devastating blow.

It does look a lovely CL. A bit strange if they have received planning permission once for the need to reapply? Perhaps they have made changes that weren't on the original permission.

A CL is exempt from the need to have planning permission for operating as a 5 van site. Perhaps it’s facility buildings or similar which have fallen foul of the rules🤷🏻‍♂️

Or they are trying go further than five caravans at a time?

That went through my head too but, if that’s the case, being forced to close would surely mean they’ve already increased numbers prior to obtaining permission. It’s all speculation at this point so let's not assume anything untoward.

Attached a copy of email - for info………….

    Good afternoon David,

Unfortunately we are having to cancel your reservation at Laggan CL, due to us having to apply for planning permission. Highland council gave us an exemption last year but have decided not to carry it on, which has left us in the unfortunate position of having to go through planning to enable us to carry on with the business.

As a result the CAMC have suspended our certification, and they will not re-instate it until the planning has been approved. As a result of several objections we have been informed that its unlikely that our application will be successful. It's a very unfortunate situation, so we are trying to give everyone who has booked with us as much notice as possible.

I wonder if its more to it than just the CL which is causing the bother. After all the Highland Council seem to be encouraging people to set dedicated parking places for motorhomes to reduce the need for wild camping. I did notice the the owner was, initially,  very active on Facebook groups promoting the CL. There has certainly been a lot of investment in the site.

I think you’re probably right, David. I think there are other strings to the site owner's bow and the 'exemption' referred to in the email would be something other than the 5 van exemption certification issued by this club. I see their website has been taken down and the link to their FB page no longer works.

Has anyone who checks CLs noted if it has been *"lost"to the network?

We were also booked there for late April, so the cancellation has left us with few alternatives, we may just have to cut the trip short.

Photos do not show more than 5 pitches, serviced hardstandings, so it would seem the problem may be the glamping pods.

Beyond my understanding why anyone would object to a small development like that in an area trying to encourage tourism.

Hopefully the CL part can be up and running again soon, there are very few sites in the area

It was still there earlier on, before your post. Don't know if it still is though.

Maybe it’s the HS themselves that are the issue re planning.

A quick search reveals what looks like a diversifcation into glamping which is probably conflicting with CL regs.

The glamping units themselves might be the problem if permission wasn’t obtained but many CLs run 5 van sites alongside other letting units and businesses.

I see that it is still on the CL Booking web site, but all dates for this year, and into next year, are showing as full.

Perhaps Ted at Cholsey Grange could explain the position, as far as he knows it.

looks like this is the planning application

seems the  neighbours are extremely unhappy with the caravan/MH site and the Club have withdrawn the certificate

Glamping pods have been there for a while apparently

According to a report on FB the problem is with glamping units and planning permission. What I don't understand is why the club has withdrawn the cl certificate whilst planning permission if sort for the glamping units which no doubt would have been issued before the owner went down the glamping route.

The site is still showing on the club cl section. However there is a small piece added at the bottom of the page that says, "This CL site is currently not taking bookings".

I don’t think the club has withdrawn the exemption certification. If it had, the site's website page would have gone. According to the OP and the copy email, it is a local authority decision that's caused the closure.

    Hi All

It is with regret that the CL at Laggan is unable to take bookings at present. We are hoping this will change in the future and will update their page on our website once we know more.

    Thanks

    Maddie
