Anyone else been watching the Winter Games?
I’ve only seen the 7pm highlights programme, but, wow, some amazing action.

Very spectacular !🙂.

Yes, my preferred Olympics, I like the winter sports, family friends produced a medal winning snow boarder so we see her on TV at the moment presenting some of the programmes. smile

I like to see the Winter Olympics as well,, brue --  the only part that rattles MY cage is the presence of the R.O.C. squad --  I thought that they had got them out of their system at the regular Games !

Love the Winter ‘lympics! Spectacular viewing and yes, tune in from 5am ish each day.

Have to agree with Brian - the inclusion of the Russians (in whatever disguise) is nothing but yet another blot on sport. A 15yr old testing positive? C’mon, time for lifetime bans.

Hoping we get a medal in something 🤞

I’ve been watching some of it especially the curling, but best not mentioned this year. I agree it’s a spectacle but at he same time it seems strange to use a venue with no natural snow. The backdrop to much of the coverage is barren rock (and the occasional steel works), hardly a winter wonderland! I could go on e.g. World Cup in that well know football nation Quatar - big sport has gone bonkers! Maybe the Russians are invading Ukraine to deflect attention from their Olympic squad?

Are we surprised? The country is run by crooks and gangsters. The man in the street is as vulnerable and lacking in influence now as he was under communism. A favoured few asset-stripped the juiciest pickings. If you say the word 'oligarch', what nationality immediately springs to mind?

It seems to me rather ironic that the athletes who decided that being "British" would enable them to be at the games, have had a rather dismal time.

    Probably Chelsea  !!

Hoping for a demonstration of the Wisdom Of Solomon sometime tomorrow  but I'm not sure what will happen after C A S send down their decision, but which ever way the decision goes I can only feel so very sorry for the Child concerned  and utter disgust for her  " Caring Adults "

But also let us not forget that certain British Sports People are none too pure in such matters

True Brian, however I’m unaware of any British 15yr old who’s tested positive for a banned substance and those cheats who have, are generally far far fewer in number than the Russians

Totally agree with sentiments directed at the child. What now for her and her future? Even if she wins after being cleared to compete (or come 2nd or 3rd) the IOC have declared there’ll be no podium

I agree, JonRay, that the Brits who have been mentioned in Despicable Despatches as far as I know have all been of Adult Years  and are becoming fewer and fewre as the Testers get their act together.

As far as the Young Russian girl is involved I think we will have heard the last of her after she returns home.  Sad for she is truly talented but politico's don't give a tuppenny cuss for those they have so cruelly mis-treated .  Think of the tiny, under developed gymnasts of a few years ago --  they had to sneak off over the borders and head to the States ( where else  !! )

I agree with ABM's post, it's very sad, I didn't enjoy watching the young skater yesterday, she is very talented but her life has been subsumed by the adults in charge of her. However the Olympic Committee have responsibilities here and they have let everyone down. Oh well back to the bobsleighs...wink

I agree brue. What is the point of having the competition if no medals are to be awarded. It’s become all about the ROC athlete, and none of the others. Personally, I think better for her to withdraw, clear her name, then come back and compete again. She is young enough. A win will taint her for life. It does sound like she is a victim here, although the defence is that she was too close to her Grandad’s angina medicine🤔

It’s interesting when you look back and see how many medal wins from different Olympics have been scrubbed from the records. 31 positive drug tests from London 2012 alone. Vast majority were Russian athletes in this case. So sad as it denies others the chance to stand on a podium at the time of victory.

I have no further comments to make wrt the actual skating competition, but it was very sad to see the youngster skating so far below her best, and with a tear streaked face,  in total it brought no kudos to R.O.C., I.O.C. or C.A.S. !

A difficult watch. She should never have been put into that position.

Cheering on the Women’s curling team at the moment🤞

A Russian and now a Ukrainian tested positive-oh how they love the limelight, for all the wrong reasons

Moving on…….WOW!! Britain now have 2 teams going for gold in the curling events!!! Brilliant to watch them, particularly the thrilling women’s semifinal!

I've enjoyed watching most of the events, some really spectacular "tricks" in the specialist skiing/boarding events and the curling was the icing on the cake. Not our most successful games and I suspect there will be some soul searching to be done, particularly in the "sliding" events.

Lovely closing ceremony and, leaving politics aside, I think the Chinese put on a great games.

Just out of interest, did anyone notice a change in names from "winter Olympic games" to "Olympic winter games" or is that just my OCD? surprised
