Extended touring

Hi, we are in the process of looking to go touring for an extended period, and included in that would be some continental travel.

Does anyone have experience of this, and would they be willing to share those experiences with us. We have a caravan and Freelander combination and there are two adults and two dogs.

Any thoughts, suggestions or experiences welcome.
