Good to see the return of the Winterwatch series and crew. Encouraging to witness the success of several rewilding projects like The Enerdale Arctic Char project along, from only a handful of these fish a decade ago to over a thousand today thanks to the vision and action of the folk concerned. Once again the usual entertaining and interesting facts abound regarding our natural countryside. Fabulous stuff I think you will agree!!

Agree with you mickysf and no early trailers for the upcoming series yet all dramas are done, good to see the little egrets in N. Ireland when you think not all that long ago they were a rarity to spot.

Love the programme generally but really happy with the " Quiet Period " and not just 'cos it shuts a squeaky voiced south African Female trying to make up for her lack of inches

Maybe quiet so not to be questioned about her air miles. Only the BBC would fly a presenter round the world. No one with skills in the UK?

Only?? Those air miles should be questioned! However, don’t think it is only the BBC who need to look at this and other related environmental issues. The whole picture needs addressing.

She's British, I expect she has a base here, reporters and presenters go all over the world don't they? I'm glad they do. I was watching Martin Clunes in the Pacific Islands last night, very interesting. I'm not so interested in Winterwatch but it's well presented. I think Covid restrictions have reduced it somewhat, not enough general participation as in the past.

I was reading an article about pollution from air travel it appears that there are nearly as many private jet aircraft flying in the world in Recent years than commercial flights

Personally I can put up with Michaela Strachan it's Chris Packham although very knowledgeable I find him very annoying. Packham's stepdaughter Megan McCubbin I think is an excellent young presenter and like Lolo Williams makes the program for me. When the Master retires David Attenborough, I hope Packham isn't chosen as his replacement.

Megan McCubbin is a consummate presenter for one so young. A breath of fresh air. Very knowledgable and learned in all things nature related and she buys into it heart and soul. I think Chris Packham should now move on, as Bill Oddie did. I know he is a thorn in the side of some but Packham’s talents is an could be better utilised and concentrated elsewhere. I’m sure he will continue to fight for what he and many others consider to be right.

One of the reasons I have a downer on Chris Packham is that he is critical of peoples photo's. The people don't pretend to be professional photographers they are responding to requests of what they have seen or unusual wildlife. If it was a Wildlife Photograph Competition I could understand his criticism, his views and remarks are enough to put people off sending the unusual photographs.

A D he is in an prominent position. Therefore as far as I am concerned he should control some of his biting comments. I don't have either of his complaints, but can't find empathy for him.

Those of us who have A&A in the family see such folk as Chris Packham as inspirational and role models for their offspring and others to aspire too. Like so many with these conditions he does not always get it right but I’ve never seen or heard of him deliberately making cruel and crass comment directly aimed towards and to hurt an individual or performing dangerous and threatening acts towards them. Both have occurred frequently in CPs life and very recently too. Is it that they see his views, his character or his condition as a target for bullying? I hope not! These people, who do this though are truly despicable as their dangerous actions are borne only out of a simple disagreement with his perceptions of what he witnesses and believes in. Unfortunately they probably see the influence he has and the successful change agent he has become in his field as a threat. It is only fair to stress mind that such people are in a minority and probably act in cowardice more than anything.

However, I do think it is time for him to move on from ‘The Watches’ but probably not for the same reasons as some others. I just think it’s time for a fresh format and younger blood. I liked Bill Oddie and the old format too but things do need to remain organic and move forward. I’m sure CP will move on to use his knowledge, skills and influence with even more success in the future. Some of course will find this of concern but as long as they address these concerns about his views and comments in a fair, correct and legal way then so be it.

Bill Oddie like myself just became a daft old git!  Having said that Bill was always an eccentric but I also have one other thing in common with him- we have been lucky enough to reach that fine old age of cantankerousness in a relatively reasonable fettle. Unfortunately many A&A folk have had the opportunity to make the very best of their lot cruelly and deliberately removed by others and also from a young age. I will stress though that many in our society are very supportive but the few can be so damaging.

mickeysf...I don't wish Chris Packham or anyone in any walk of life harm only good fortune. However no matter how you dress Chris Packham up , to me he is far too critical of people that I refered to in my previous post.

Indeed, critical of their efforts though not them as people and certainly not intentionally hurtful in doing so. There is a huge difference and it is that difference which is crucial. Thankfully both you and I have the capacity to discriminate between the two, others can not! Whether that is good fortune, I’m not sure all would see it that way!

Some have cried this for several years. Fake news? Of course we don’t know this season’s figures yet but last years viewing numbers show the opposite!

Glad this post is under " entertainment" because that is what the programme is. Far away from real life.

All you need to do is look back, see who soured this thread and understand their reasoning for doing so. This is a very entertaining and informative programme which is all about real and raw nature and natural life, one which many people thoroughly enjoy.👍

Chris Packham is wildlife focused, he is a superb person both heart & soul, which is obvious from what his step Daughter has learnt from him & their relationship. The fact he’s constantly attacked & even been firebombed by the field ‘sports’ fraternity speaks volumes. AD your good Lady has a very good heart👍🏻

Fish, have you ever considered saying something positive about someone?, your constant attacks on folk are meaningless unless you have a positive opinion on some others to give us context. I dislike bad farmers who abuse animals yet I’ve worked with & for some superb ones. One I know well turned down a lucrative contract to supply young cows for the veal trade due to its cruelty. That’s context👍🏻. Don’t even get me started on foie gras😤😤

Yes RTBs, no acknowledgment to the many traditional farmers and long established landowners either who have engaged in real nature and rewilding projects. These people have a connection with real life and country life despite some deliberately wishing not to acknowledge this or even admit their existence. Just search the web for proof of these enlightened country folk. Thankfully they do walk amongst us.
