There is a bit of hardstanding area near the canal bridge. His "lad" who cut the grass has a big tractor.

Others will be able to help more with CAMC rallies (we don't do them as they require bookings)....however the THS listings for C&CC come with their magazine in a supplement called Out & About, which I think has to be opted into to receive it?...you can call the office for more details.
...but, usefully, they are all available on the Out&About app (which works a treat) and you can filter by date or area really quickly, I use it a lot and we do THS sites when we are in the uk for the summer...cheap, usually close to towns, can use solar (summer time) for power, no booking etc....

If you sign up for a centre on your profile you'll get the printed list with the next (I think?) magazine otherwise you'll have to wait for the PDF to launch. The only problem is some centres send in late lists so it's sometimes better to look at individual centre rallies in the membership section.
edit I think CAMC is going to start promoting centres once more in the magazine, I wonder if this will include rallies. The C&CC "Out and About" flyer in their magazine is good if you've signed up to receive it.

Brue, yes I think there are one or two where numbers are limited but this is very much the exception.
where was this one?
here's some 'Centre' stuff from the website...
"You can only belong to one Centre at a time, but you don’t have to join your local Centre. If you have friends or family who are members of another Centre, or you like to travel to another area of the country, you can join the Centre most convenient for you.
you can only go to CC rallies organised by 'your' centre even though you can swap centres...but why would you need to?
I want to go a rally based on location, not who organised it.

That's right JVB, anyone can go to a rally as a CAMC member, you don't have to belong to a centre.
BB the THS we hope to go on....the CAMC has one in a similar spot but was fully booked already so I'm not going to say any more...or I may miss a place on my next attempt.
Last year we booked Wareham RFC but had to abandon it due to Covid. This year I'm looking at other places.
You could, if you want to go somewhere you really like offer to run a rally and get yourself to your ideal place. So far the Brues don't have the get up and go but thankfully some do!
Apologies this is getting away from "best camp sites" but might be useful to some.

That is how CCC works, but not CAMC as posted above from the rally webpage.

We went to WRC last time it was there...and many times before.
If what I posted from the website re Centres/rallies has changed, then the club needs to update it.
actually, the odd THS site sometimes gets pretty close to being a 'best camp site'...

You can alway check out >Best of British< Some affiliated sites appear on their list but none of the club sites as far as I am aware

BoB is a collection of commercial sites. Whether jointly owned as a business or simply grouped together, I don’t know. There’s no way they’d list club owned sites.

Thank you all for your posts, it's been good reading through what makes a good site for some. Lots of variety is what we like, the site that JimE mentioned is on our list to visit, almost made last year.
A nice friendly thread as well
Good to bring rallies into it as its a topic that isn't often discussed on here. We've not done rallies as I shy away from 'organised' events.
THS is something we might consider at some stage. They would be good for filling in gaps in a tour maybe. We don't get many up here.
Like some others we are hoping to get back to Europe this year where we will visit some of our favourite sites and introduce our friends to them.
Happy touring wherever it takes you.

The first site I ever went to was one ot the Best of British sites (Lincoln Park Farm) At the time there were less than 6 sites listed (!989/90). I guess site quality must have improved because there are many more members now.
TG Rallies can be as organised as you like, themes are many and varied and you can always do your own thing. Some of the best holidays I have had have been the "organised" holiday rallies.

"THS is something we might consider at some stage. They would be good for filling in gaps in a tour maybe. We don't get many up here."
TG, there's generally nothing 'organised' about the THS calendar...just treat it as a temporary site, which is what it is.
Although they don't generally require booking, as Brue mentions, a few are so popular that it has to be...Ive just booked one to tag onto an already organised mini tour....I think it might be the one that Brue was alluding to...
