Downplating
Downplating. Anyone recently down-weighted. A while ago went up to 3850 but now needing to get back to 3500 before next lisc renewal. Contacted DVLA. Couple weeks ago who said their forms & letter plus weighbridge ticket would be OK. Today, DVLA now say need a report from one of their list or engineers, ie. Sv tech, who presumably charge to say my globebus is OK to be back as she was when I bought her 4 years ago. so confused . Anyone know if they are right.

All I know is a lot of people use SvTech and from what I have seen on various online forums and Social Media speak highly of them. Given that they are offering a profession service I am sure there will be a charge as you will need a new plate to attach to the motorhome with the lower weight.

if the MH needed 'evidence' from (say) SVtech to show it can manage the extra weight, surely the change back to 3500kg needs no such evidence as you won't be changing anything physical...this is purely a paper change....
depending on what changes were made to accommodate a 3850,g weight (ours came up plated from 3650 to 3850 as it came with 16" wheels and an al-ko chassis) it shouldn't need anything other than the DVLA to lower the revenue weight..
In fact, I wanted to run the van at 3500kg and the dealer just contacted the DVLA and the converter supplied a new plate.
as we have three weight plates (3650, 3850, 3500) I would be confident I could run at any of these weights following the DVLA making the change.
