What did you think of it ? have you got one on the site you are caring for ,it makes interesting reading for many not just who it was aimed at

I think it would  make a Good site handout wink

I agree about how some site staff, if there was not such a staff shortage may well not be where they areundecided

The info given by the club on here about the new booking system appears to be very similar to the other club the main difference, as I can see at this moment in time, is not being taken by a warden to a pitch.   Having said that I understand there are further bits to be finalised

If running the 2 systems side by side I was just wondering if anyone has seen anything regarding the following scenario as I haven’t read all the thread.

Some members having booked a year in advance and arriving after lunch whilst others booked via the new system  when it starts, and paid a deposit for say a HS with awning and not arriving till late in the day (but before the office closes) will their choice of pitch be saved for those members.

Maybe I will just have to wait for further info from the club as to how the wardens will handle the pitch allocations.

My take on it as posted earlier ,there will be enough hardstands "reserved" to cater for for all those who have used the new system ,as was done when the trial? with booking hardstands was running

I can see that causing uproar amongst those who booked well ahead and turn up at opening time!

Fairer would be for those who have already booked to be given the chance to book a pitch surface before new bookings are taken, or for the hardstandings to be allocated half to early bookers on arrival, if they desired one, with only half being bookable under the new system.

Under the previous surface booking trial, everyone had a chance to book their preferred surface, so a very different scenario.

It's a sensible approach to helping out new members as well as more experienced. From my experience this year it's been well received by everyone who's read it. We actually used it as a handout along with the site plan.

Your last sentence I couldn't possibly comment. I've met a lot of new staff this season and most were as keen as we were back in the day, it's just a different world camping wise now.

I know you cannot comment ,but in my many years of being a member and also still have some working and others retired site operating staff  as good friends also the  older ex military, and the later it seems less informed RMsfrown

I do not usually comment, but on two sites this year  I have seen the very reasons there are problems with lack of basic customer service.to members and it was not from the new  assistant managerundecided

I have read the reviews of one couples previous site and can from what ii saw see what members said of themundecided

That could be kept track of in the same way cancellations are kept today and repeat offenders could receive a punishment.

That might well be illegal seeing as The Caravan Club is keeping their deposit.

I don't see blacklisting them and not accepting any bookings from them for a period as illegal. Simply citing the breaking of Club rules should be sufficiient. Its every owners right not to accept bookings from those they consider undesirable.

What!   Undesirables in The Caravan Club?

Though at one time they did ban owners of motorised caravans from even joining.

Too simple maybe.   I pity the warden who has to explain to someone who booked 12 months back why there are no hard standings available for them to chose from, despite there obviously being some empty ones!

I've just caught up with this latest development.

I think it's going to be a difficult year 2022 for some site wardens.

Paying deposits doesn't bother me, if I need to book far ahead then I'm happy to pay a deposit, as its pretty certain I will be taking up that booking. I've already made 2 for next year and paid deposits with the other club.

I booked with them for the sole reason I can book a H/S. Which I want to ensure I have for my single night booking on the way to the ferry.

Maybe now that this club is allowing pitch type bookings to be made they might get the odd booking from me. wink

Al other type of tours we do in the UK are made at the last minute so tend to use C&CC as you can usually get a pitch and they are more cost effective for us aged folk.

Come to think of it we might not bother re newing our CAMC membership next year until we see how it all works out. 0

It was one of the contentious issues of the trial ,,,that I suspect will continue until the new booking system is stand alone

In my opinion although this club are not very good at communication  should hilight. to all members what will be involved

The simple thing is that if you booked 12 months ago (the date of which will be on your booking conformation)you would get to choose on arrival what pitches are available. Those who booked with the new system (once again booking date on conformation)and who have booked maybe a hardstanding will be assured of one. Not much to explain really and no pity needed. The site manager will know on any particular day if any particular pitch types are going spare, no drama at all.

Surely if this is of so much concern to a member the simiple answer is rebook under the new system as soon as they can whether at the same site or another..

It will be the site managers who will have the headacre working out how many hardstands will be required, for bookings into the future

Unless all hardstands are reserved for the new system bookers ?

Steve L , thanks for posting that .I was thinking the same thing and trying to word a reply in my mind , yours was more concise than my effort.😁. What got me thinking was we have already booked a few sites for next year .

JK , sorry but I think your reply has been very diplomatically worded. Your first sentence states choice of pitches available they could be only grass , as your second sentence states hardstanding assured . Clearly that is a two tier system being operated .

It’s simple really. Priority on surface type is going to be given to those who use the new booking system. Early bookers will get what’s left upon arrival, but then that happens now anyway. There just won’t be as many of a particular surface type to choose from, on the mixed surface Sites.

    Just so

With as I. posted earlier and you have also highlighted

If those of us who have already booked ,, want to alter the booking or to guarantee a specific pitch type, ,the club are saying to cancel and start again with a fresh booking?

Which if while the booking system as at this time you can do that, ,those of us who know how busy the system is on very many sites, by the time you have cancelled a booking  some or all will have been snapped up by those looking for pitches

I know I would not want to chance that when the new system is introduced next April?

And with the wriggle room site staff had In the past now not  available? In the dash for cash it seems by this clubs directors the "it pays to talk" has now also been taken away

The risks of you losing the booking must be quite small. One way around this will be to allow members who booked under the current system to select a pitch type as soon as the facility to do so is made available rather than have to cancel and rebook. Perhaps such a facility should be retained so that a member can change it at any time before arrival, subject to availability of types of course.

I think you would be very unlucky having booked a pitch a year in advance which you then cancel and then find you can't book the pitch type you want for the same period. Firstly you will be able to see the availability for the pitch type you want before you amend. Perhaps the new system will give an indication of how many of a particular pitch type is available? What we don't know is how previously booked pitches are allocated viz a viz pitch type so it is possible your cancelled booking might just add to the pitch surface you want? As always the devil will be in the detail!

It will only be a problem at certain sites, where the pitch surfaces are mixed, somewhere like Looe for example might need some thought, where there are only 99 HS out of 217 pitches. But those who know the site might not worry anyway, the grass might be good. Exeter is an example we know, mix of both, but the grass pitches are fine, just a bit of a walk to facility block if needed.

As I posted this year it is at peak times been a problem   with it seems many looking to fill in bookings when sites are busy with odd days missing from their bookings

We had to curtail  some of our previous bookings and on several sites it was very difficult to get a full week, to make an alternative tour
