Howdy. Thinking on buying Kia Sportage for towing Bailey Pegasus 1450 MTPLM any advise/experience on 1.6 diesel 136 bhp - enough power or any views on 2.0 diesel 185bhp plenty of power but economy might be worry !

Any advise/ experience welcome

I’d not contemplate the smaller 136, personally, as I know I’d regret it’s lack of power. In terms of MPG, I doubt the 2.0 185 will be any thirstier as the smaller engine version will need to work harder and change gear more often.

Actually, I’d go for the Sorento…🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s a very popular tow car well up to the job.

We tow  a Pegasus Genoa with an eight year old sportage 185bhp 2ltr auto, and it needs a light foot to keep it within  speed limits

You don't buy tow cars for their economy.😉 As Tinny says, the smaller engine will be working harder generally, so the bigger 2.0 won't be that dis-similar in terms of mpg. Buy the 2.0!

I have just bought the 136bhp mild hybrid diesel 2021 AWD auto towing a 1500 kg Coachman Vision. Having towed with. 170 bop Mercedes C class I was a bit cautious on bhp drop. The sportage is lovely, plenty of power , even on hills. Sometimes forget the caravan is on the back. Sport mode is good at roundabouts to stop lag. So smooth and comfortable and stable. Thoroughly recommend it, and I am getting 30 mpg towing. Bought a seven year service plan that equals one Mercedes’ main dealer service

Different rig but I had a 136BHP 2009 Euro 4 Kuga, albeit 2L towing 1350Kg. An additional 100Kg wouldn't make much difference, it's air drag that really affects performance. More modern engines give a much improved "bag for your buck". How much of a hurry are you in?

It's not the speed of how you get there but the ease in how you do it 😉

towing with sportage 28-32mpg. solo tends to average 45-50. so comparible with the merc, but nowhere run in yet. Solo not done a steady run, and then checked it, merc could get up to 60mpg. if you can find a 2 litre try one to compare it to the 1.6, but i was nicely surprised how good 1.6 is . the AWD and auto push the kerbside weight up to 1700kg

Have a Bailey Pegasus 1460 mtplm sounds like the 1.6 diesel 136bhp may be ok then - would you recommend didn't realise 1.6 had awd option !

I've towed 1700kg with 171bhp with no problem, you certainly dont need a 2Ton towcar for  towing 1450kg.
