Firework Free, Dog Friendly Sites
Hello all!
I have two dogs and am looking to escape the usual hassles over Bonfire night and as many days before and after the main event that I can.
Does anyone out there please know of any sites in the North West / North East that are free from or unaffected by fireworks?
Any advice or recommendations gratefully received.

You could always check out any potential sites that you short list on Google Earth just to check what habitation there is in the vicinity as that will probably be the source of any noise?

It's an impossible question to answer. Even if I could recommend an out of the way site, say a remote CL, there is always the chance that the occupiers of the property will have some or one of the other members staying on site will have some to "entertain" their offspring/gkids, or someone a mile away across open land will be having a party with them.
You can't expect wardens or CL owners to know who in their locality is likely to be a party pooper.
We just took our dog who hated the fireworks for a very long drive in the car, once travelling from near Chester to Angelsey and back, arriving home at 2 o'clock in the morning. Great. Except a local drunkard starting letting off bangers half an hour later.
Dogs have amazing hearing so you'll have a hard job finding a solution but I really do wish you well. Ours died on 5th.November from a heart attack induced by fireworks so I absolutely hate that time of year more than any other.

Coniston Park Coppice and Troutbeck Head should be safe bets.

TH does have an activity centre next door that sometimes has events on in the evening, probably not fireworks but best to check.

Some idiots are setting off fireworks already, it made the dog bolt and knock over the Christmas tree!

Many thanks indeed for your replies, comments and recommendations. Am following up on those but just looking for any site really - priority is the dogs - so Club, CL or other...
Fully understand there are no guarantees, just want to do my best as last year was an absolute nightmare; especially for my oldest dog who experiences uncontrollable tremors and simply wants to find the smallest, darkest space in which she can hide.
Dave - Thanks, and just for info in case others are looking too, I had a reply from Troutbeck Head who say they do suffer from a nearby property so I will ring Coniston tomorrow.

PS - you could try one of our favourite CLs, Drake House Farm, high in the hills above Clitheroe. Not the cheapest of CLs but everything's included, serviced HS pitch, shower/toilet, free WiFi and dogs included. There is (or was) a commercial site and a large hotel which you'd pass before you get there but I doubt they'd be having fireworks. Good walking area direct from site too.

Hi all. I too was looking. I’ve found Dryslwyn near Bridgend for November because they’re surrounded by farms, etc and although they said there may be some in the distance, that’s much better than where we are.
We’re now looking for another firework free zone for New Year’s Eve between Plymouth and North Somerset if anyone has any ideas0 -
CCC Site at Priddy (Cheddar)? It’s in a fairly isolated location on the Mendips so would expect it to be quiet.
Kingston Seymour (near Clevedon) would probably be ok - there’s a couple of sites around there, but maybe some distant noise (2 or 3 miles).

I'd stay well clear of Plymouth as there will be plenty of fireworks there but somewhere remote on Dartmoor should fit the bill.

Stay very well clear of the Westonsupermare, Bridgwater, Taunton areas as well. It’s a huge event around there, we had a night at Hurn Lane a few years ago, and it was like being in a war zone. Thankfully our two Labs are bomb proof, but our Airedales wouldn’t have coped.

Are you thinking of the carnivals and fireworks held in that area around now, TDA?
I think any area of high population will also be best avoided at New Year and, given the holiday parks on the North Somerset coast, that’s sure a place to avoid at New Year.

Most of the Somerset local Autumn events like the illuminated carnivals, including the big Bridgwater one are cancelled again this year.
To be honest I can't think of anywhere that might be quiet, even up on Exmoor etc. people in villages have fireworks in their gardens etc. I find hill areas noisy as the sounds bounce off, even from a distance. Maybe somewhere quiet on the levels might suit?

Yes, I think that must be it Tinny😁 It all seemed a lot bigger than the usual 5th November thing. As I say, we were lucky, our pooches were surprisingly fine with it all thankfully.

It just wasn’t something we were aware of at the time. We would probably have enjoyed it without the pooches.
Sadly, it’s ten years ago that dreadful incident on the M5 happened in this area as well. Foggy night led to absolute mayhem, keep safe everyone.

Unfortunately there are lots of fireworks at Dryslwyn too. Very loud and very close. Been going for almost 2 hours nonstop, so this is one scratched off my list unfortunately

We had a different reply from Troutbeck Head about fireworks (we did check the "events" on the activity centre too). Just returned after a very peaceful (excluding the wind on Saturday night) few days there, our very fearful dog chilled completely. Although we made the "mistake" of thinking that Southport on a Monday night would be safe (sadly we had one short burst of bangs - that had our boy shaking and trying to get away)
