I have just taken delivery of a nearly new V 40.  The Mickey Mouse "Supplement" to the owner's manual found in the glove box, has several pages devoted to fitting and using a towbar.  All to the good you may think. However, on two separate pages is a command (not a recommendation) that the owner regularly  grease the tow ball.  Just think what that will do to the friction pads in your tow cup and the potential danger of snaking caravans on major roads, especially motorways.  It seems inconceivable that a company who pride themselves on their safety record and strive to have the Towcar of the Year, can make such a dangerous mistake.

depends what you're towing .... if you were just towing a trailer without a stabiliser hitch, the instruction/command would be correct.
