Caravan and Motorhome (and Tent) Club?

Are we sliding into being a tenting club too?

Currently on site and between the entrance, our van and the toilet blocks (there may be others elsewhere on site too), there are half a dozen massive 8 man size awninged tents with large families in, acting as "pup tents" to small 2 persons VW type motor homes.

I have seen this at some other sites too, though not as many as here and not so brazenly just camping with a Motorhome as a car (not being used for sleeping at all).

Are we turning into 'the other club' by stealth? Or am I just being a snob again? (and before you say yes, I'm OK with that!) 😅

Do you mean the campervans have awnings attached? Is that a problem any more than an awning attached to a caravan?🤔

No TW, I mean they have a massive stand alone camping tents (not attached) and are blatantly camping... in a tent.

Rule 6 Allows;  Using awnings or tents

    a. On pitches with awning space you can erect an awning. You may also put up a tent for extra sleeping accommodation, or a specially designed toilet or cooking tent, provided the main outfit is occupied, but please keep them within your pitch area. Please also refer to rule 5c.

To me, 'extra sleeping accommodation' implies that the primary accommodation is the Motorhome or Caravan (my 15 year old lad sleeps in an annex in the awning as he is now 6 foot and too long for the bunks), I have no problem with rule 6, I use it myself.

Where you have a family of 7 and 2 dogs in a massive tent and the 'Motorhome' is not being used for sleeping at all, just a car.... I'm calling that camping! 🤔

Have you discussed it with the warden? I'm sure he/she will be happy to explain why stand alone is treated differently from attached👍🏻

No of course not TW! 😉 Clearly I'm venting my general disapproval in a passive aggressive way on this forum after a couple of glasses of the good stuff and considering if we are on a slippery slope to the CCC.

Other than some excessive noise from the young kids waking at sunrise, I really CBA to get involved any more than armchair warrioring with forum strangers..... Isn't that what this forum is for? 😉😅

Agreed, and this site has camping pitches available, but these are on standard white peg pitches.

Have seen sites with small tents on some of the weird shaped pitches wink  BUT Brian saw tents ( three I seem to recall ) between the artisan coffee bar and the Clubs ' enquiry units ' at the most recent NEC Show that was held ~~ never bothered to query them.  I am pretty sure they had been there at earlier shows but I would not place my few shekels on it  money-mouth

We had the same next to us on a site in North York's last week the parents slept in the VW camper and the two teenagers .were in a large tent which also acted as the annexe during the day and especially  when it rained, it all fitted well within their pitch,

I suspect that with the growth of the small VW campervans with limited internal space, the family were utilising the tent from their old camping life

Is it possible that its a 'drive away' awning and they have just not fastened it to the van.

We have seen quite a few of them this year.

Doesn't bother me if they sleep in it, or some do and some don't. As long as they are not making a noise or breaking any rules like spacing for fire brakes why shouldn't they enjoy themselves.

The school holidays will soon be over in England (they already are up here) the campsites will once again revert back to being places of peace and quiet and full of the more sedate in society 😂😂

Unless it is a site which also accepts tents, it would appear that Rule 6(a) is being contravened. Not that I'm bovvered if it's within his pitch limits.
