Motor Mover Fix

We arrived back at the storage compound on Saturday after a week away and duly went to put the caravan back in it’s slot. I couldn’t get the motor mover (PowrTouch Evolution Auto) to engage, it fired up, but wouldn’t engage. After a bit of investigation, I found the solution. Remove the plastic covers ( you’ll need a mallet), remove the plastic grommets and using the supplied ‘key’, turn the screw clockwise, two full turns, each side. An easy fix that only took 5 minutes, and now works as normal. I note that some PowrTouch movers have a cut-out in the cover, so removal won’t be necessary. Hopefully this info might at some point be useful to someone 👍

When we were looking at having a motor mover fitted ,we were advised to have a Manuel engaged mover as our c\van is in storage and would be ,still usable without problems if the c/van batt was discharged needing to scramble underneathsurprised

Yes, I deliberated for a while over it. I guess I preferred the ease of an auto-engage. That said, I’ve never had a manual-engage, but I imagined a lot of huffing and puffing, scraped knuckles etc. The battery should never (🤞) be a problem as I have a spare for when the caravan gets little use.

so ... do you have keep fit windows on your car just case the electric motors fail? Or maybe a starting handle too, just in case the starter motor fails? etc etc etc And why would you need to scramble underneath your caravan if its battery discharged .... unless you'd left the mover engaged against the tyres ... surely nobody leaves a mover engaged while it's in storage

And wasn't Manuel in Fawlty Towers? 🙄🙄

Got me scratching my head now, my mover is auto engage, but comes with a small lever to do manual engage if auto does not work, but if battery is flat manually putting the mover to the wheel achieves nothing as the motors will not operate to move the wheels ????

I believe the auto engage sort will not engage if the battery is below a certain charge level. To avoid getting the rollers onto the tyre and then risk having to manually retract.

The manual version is applied and released with the use of a supplied extending wrench as used for wheel nuts, it applies  both sides together and can be used dither side

As has been mentioned if the cvan batt is in a low state of charge it quite possibly get stuck against the wheels with the  auto mover

I guess this could be possible if you were in the process of moving the caravan and the mover was engaged, however, your battery would have to be very flat, the demo i had showed the actual rollers stopped working but sufficient power then to retract the rollers from the wheel, worse case scenario mine has a cap at end of mover which is easily accessible you remove, stick in the lever and wind the rollers back, no need to get under the van.laughing

It was the power touch sales people who first asked if our c/van was in storage, when my answer was yes it was they who advised the manual versionsurprised

I think you’d have to be very unlucky for the battery to be totally flat/sufficiently discharged having just moved the van.

depends how long c/van had been not used .and especially if an alarm is fitted ,there maybe enough to move it but to late to realise it was stuck on the wheel,

As I alluded to, I have a spare battery, which means I can (and do) swap over on a fairly regular basis when not in use. At the start of the season, it gets a fully charged battery.

We did the same when we had a caravan in storage, as the tracker/ alarm drained it. I always put the fresh one in prior to engaging our automatic power touch. Plus as we were always on EHU it always had a good charge when we returned.
