Hi is anyone’s Dometic fridge beeping all the time during this really hot weather, it beeps 33 times then stops for 10 mins or so and beeps 33 times again and so on?

We had one that did that and shading it was the only answer along with hanging a wet towel over the front. Keeping it cool is what's needed. Great, eh?

is this a time when fans dragging air across the condenser at the back of the fridge would help? 🤷‍♂️

Very likely, ED, and a lot of people fit those fans.

Ours beeps too from time to time. We’ve found giving the door a ‘shove’ after closing overcomes it. The thing I’ve noticed is that if the caravan is slightly tilted towards the off side, the problem doesn’t arise.

We had that, too, but it was the warning for the door not being tightly closed as opposed to the overheating warning.

TBH, I didn’t know there was a overheating warning, let alone the difference between that and the door open warning. I’m guessing therefore that the situation clarinetman describes above has to be the overheating warning?

It can be caused by moisture entering the printed circuit on the latch assembly.a simple fix is to disconnect the wiring plug from the latch but you will not have a light or warning when the door is open!

Looking on line the problem is as you have said condensation on the circuit board would try to get to the board but wife says if I touch it she will leave, here goes then!!!

no better not it does stope as the day cools down. Thanks for the reply’s as usual very useful.

I assume so as he refers to the hot weather.

In our case, the fridge was situated opposite the sliding door of our PVC and the sun was pouring in through the open door onto the fridge. We unwound the canopy which then sheltered the doorway from the direct sun and added the wet towel to the fridge door.

The door not shut warning was a frequent occurrence and just needed a shove as you described. The beeping would not then restart until the next time someone forgot to close it firmly.

Try disengaging the travel lock and just rely on the magnetic door seals when the van is sited and stationary.  Don't forget to set the lock prior to moving.

How will that help an overheating situation, please?

We've only ever use the travel lock for travelling on all our fridges.

Not closing the fridge door firmly enough can set off an audible alarm.Another possibility, albeit unlikely in the UK,is low voltage. Our fridge began "beeping" at Beaulieu sur Dordogne due to voltage drop issues on the site supply. We had to switch to gas while the site sorted their power issues out.An outside chance issue in the UK but you never know....

We have also fitted a thermostatically controlled fan to our fridge for Continental conditions and we are now employing it in the UK- no fridge "beeping" even though we are  listless in this oppresively humid heat.

The problem lies with the wires and plug into the rear of the lamp unit becoming coated with condensation, which activates the door open warning system - 30 beeps for 20 seconds repeating every 2min 40sec.

For some reason not using the lock helps to alleviate the situation in some cases.

The "cure" is to pull off the plastic cover over the lamp unit, dry the wires and plug, and all will be well - until the next time undecidedwink.

If desperate dry the lock / light with a hair drier, but don't over heat the food in the fridge.

The poor performance of the fridge / freezer in hot conditions is a different problem best mitigated by a fan.

I disagree. The overheating of the fridge is due to it needing additional cooling in high temperatures.

Using the door lock or not made no difference in my case.

our caravan fridge is a Thetford tall fridge freezer. The travel lock on it is a hook arrangement that pulls on a peg at the bottom of the door. In theory, when unlocked, it should clear the door, but in practice we find that the door does not always close properly & it's best to remove the plastic 'hook' completely while on site. Is this the type of thing LLM is talking about?

Are you saying that Dometic absorption fridge / freezers are fitted with over heat alarms?

Our Dometic door lock was nothing as simple as that, ED, but was integrated into the closing mechanism.

No idea about an overheat alarm. However, I thought the door open beep on our  Dometic tall fridge freezer was on a timer. No loss of temperature or anything, just time. I based that on the fact if you close ours and open it again it stops until it has been open another minute or so.

Just disconnect the wiring plug from the latch assembly (for those who are unable to read!)

Our Series 10 Tall fridge gives s door open indication for about an hour each morning until a subsequent door movement and is fine after that all day until the following morning.

How many of you still have the winter covers on, over the external vents?
