odd one?....
im a bit sceptical about the effect of the latest CT 'updates' on my ipad, which im 'blaming' by process of elimination..
a few days ago, around 10 in the morning, my ipad suddenly went blank and rebooted itself....rare, but not unheard of.....I was using CT at the time...
it rebooted but a few mins later, did the same...the issue got so bad that it was just in a continual loop of crashing and rebooting, most unusual for an apple product.
i tried a series of different reboots and resets....firstly resetting "all settings" but this made no real difference...
i had a few back ups so decided to reset to factory settings....went ok...then restored from a back up a few days prior to the issue...hopefully ensuring that any bug in my most recent backup would not be reimported.
all went ok and again started using it...
a pattern soon developed....opening mail was ok....opening other various websites in safari was also ok....and (i think) opening CT but without signing in or clicking yes to cookies 'seems' ok...
if i wish to post, i have to sign in and, even without accepting cookies, the ipad will then crash after a few mins....
im typing this post in Notes (as the ipad may well have crashed prior to posting) and will try and past shortly...
i am aware i have a older ipad and am running on IOS 9.3.6 and there certainly are other websites that sometimes dont display properly...
my iphone is on version 14.6 and, although much less used for CT, ive had no issue.
i doubt anyone has such an old ipad, but if they do, have they had any such issues.
im probably going to replace this unit but it has been working fine as a browsing tool.
i dont use apple for any 'computing' tasks as i used to on the PC...
Thanks for any help....

ps....i deliberately havent opened CT for the past 90 mins or somand the ipad has been stable using google maps, mail, notes, other websites etc....
i will now open CT and try and post this....

My iPad is on version 14.6 with no such problems although in recent times I’ve needed to reboot to clear website crashing issues. As you say highly unusual for IOS. Display issues are fairly commonplace. I had difficulty booking my day 2 & 5 Covid tests as half the buttons failed to display on the iPad but perfectly ok on the iPhone also running 14.6

Sorry can’t help BB, I replaced my old iPad in January and that was running iOS 10 point something. As you mention many websites refused to work with it and as I do use it for day to day computing it had to go. Shame as it was still working fine. Although did lock up and need a hard reset periodically. What I thought particularly poor is that I couldn’t even access the Apple shop to look for another one. The OH has an oldish iPad mini on iOS 12 and apple are still sending updates for that, despite now being about to release 15. So hopefully are learning from their mistakes of stopping servicing earlier systems.

thanks, both....yes i realise its undoubtedly the age of the operating system, although in some cases now, the fast development of some websites (tho surely not CT.....) require much faster graphics (incl hardware) capability which causes many of the usual 'wont work' issues.

like Steve, i find it annoying that theres no backwards compatibility with many of the developments, making older kit obsolete at a stroke...

ill have to bite the bullet too......or give CT a missundecided

having said that, ive just been out shopping for an hour or so and it was still 'up' when i got back.....not accepted cookies yet...annoyingly, the banner takes up 25% of the screen!

I've also had problems with an old iPad (Series 2, I believe).  Not just with this website but with others - and then it eventually died and from 'research' I did on my iPhone (we were away at the time), it looked as if it was terminal.

So - I went out and treated myself to a new Macbook Air and, like my iMac at home, is running Big Sur 11.4 - the latest software.  Really pleased with it - but here's a strange thing.....

If I log onto CT with anything other than the Macbook, every time I switch that device off, I'm automatically logged out of CT and have to log in again next time I want to use it. That I regard as normal.

Not so with the Macbook - everytime I switch it on, I'm still logged into CT.  Not that bothered about it, but I am intrigued as to why.  It doesn't happen with any other website that requires a log-in,  so it must be a quirk of this website.

Mine is iPad Air2 running ios14.6. I’ve had a couple of 'black outs' recently and had to reboot the pad. They've not been linked to use of CT though. I’ve had no such problems using my Android phone.

I'll be careful here but I have noticed older Apple products start to play up when newer versions become available. My iPhone SE (first edition) became hopeless after one of the big updates when SE (new edition) was announced. Make what you will of that.🤷🏻‍♂️

R&R, I find on the Pad I get logged out of CT every time I navigate away to another site on a different tab even though I leave CT open. It's flaming annoying to have to login so often. It didn’t used to be this way but started happening a few months ago following one of the bigger tweaks to the website. Again, it doesn’t happen on my Android phone which stays logged in until I close the CT tab.

That is weird! I actually close all tabs before coming out of Chrome altogether but then, after shutting the MacBook down and going back to it - perhaps in a few days time, I'm still logged into CT.  Just can't understand it, but as I said, not a problem as such.

Just digressing - this new MacBook with the Apple M1 chip is lightning fast - much faster than my iMac which uses the Intel i5 chip. Really pleased with it.

I use Safari on the Pad but don't know if that accounts for it. I use Chrome on the phone.

That's interesting about the M1. Seems it lives up to its promises and I see it's used in the latest iPad Pro too. Using CT we need all the speed we can muster😋

Mine is ipad3 running 14.6 no issues other than it dismantles correct words & reissues them as gobbledegook-I think that’s Apple cheapening running gear/increasing profit margins🤷🏻‍♂️

the ipad has remained 'up' (although used very sparingly, incl CT) since my last 'update'...

ive refrained from clicking 'I accept' to the cookies mesage despite the banner looming large.

i may do this later and see what happens....my 'testing' os certainly NOT definitive and im basing my thoughts purely on what ive seen.....

if the ipad falls over fairly rapidly it'll will just be another clue.

I'm on Big Sur 11.4, the same as RandR yet when I close the MacBook Air down I do have to log in and register again but it stays open if I just close CAMC site down without shutting down the whole thing.

Had no other major problems but it did throw a wobbly about 4 weeks ago. However after Mrs WN gave it a good talking to it seemed to behave. I know the feeling.

It is getting on now and we have talked about upgrading it but we'll let sleeping dogs lie for the moment.

I upgraded OH's iPad from 2 to a newer version last year and inherited the old one, although I hardly ever fire it up. iPhones are 8 running 14.6, and my MacBook Pro is running Catalina 10.15. I delayed switching to Big Sur to give it time to bed in and haven't got around to doing so. Perhaps I'll find time after my next trip away I'll be at home for a decent spell.

Can't pretend to have done any real 'testing - but the MacBook boots up in, literally, seconds whereas the iMac takes a minute or two and I've got the same software loading on each.  Whether the registry on the iMac is now full of rubbish, I'm not sure, but the MacBook certainly seems to be faster.
