Serious Motorhome Warranty, Be Warned.

I bought from OMC my sixth Hymer in 2019 (A 2018 4000 mile Excis 588) and in early 2020 on our first unlocked trip I noticed some tiny bubbles in the side wall at the base of the passenger door around the seal. Obviously a fault in the pressing of the outer skin to the door wall! I contacted OMC who have spent until this week 30 JUNE chasing!! I e-mailed Hymer  who told me to take it to the nearest dealer being South down motorhomes, I contacted them and they said they are not taking on any new customers ( so not interested)

I also spoke to travel world  who also said its not a warranty problem!! Now I have worked in the industry for many years, even manufactured German bespoke motorhomes under licence. I have visited many UK factories and the Hymer factory back in the 70's  Hymers build quality is, was second to none.

My discussions with OMC are such that apparently, as soon as you purchase outside of the Hymer franchise and the fact that a non franchised dealer would have serviced etc the vehicles Factory warranty becomes null and void.

They tell me this is so with 90% of manufacturers. The RAC warranty given with the vehicle does not cover such things and obviously the 10 year Hymer body warranty doesn't apply either.

I will pursue with Hymer but now that Thor have bought the business,  I could be wasting my time.

Irrespective of warranties, under the Consumer Rights Act it is the dealer who sold you the van who is responsible for sorting out defects.

For further advice, I suggest you contact the club's Legal Dept.

Unfortunately this is a sign of the times with Hymer. I am now on my 4th Eriba and the build quality has gone down the pan, with Hymer still not listening to owners. The latest problem is lightweight plywood use in cabinetwork resulting in cupboard doors and bathroom doors leaving company with the cabinetwork in transit. This has been known since 2012 I believe and still no improvements. To be fair though, in comparison to normal vans they are still generally good, but when paying a premium price you expect a premium product.
