Dartford Crossing

Can anyone advise on how far ahead of the crossing we can pay?   Any possible problems we might encounter?

    We used the Crossing last month, and bought the "ticket "one trip, from the local village store Pay Zone, class B  £2.50 car/caravan they are valid. for 12 months

    We're about to use it on our way home and will pay within the time limit when we get back. For us this is the easiest way in case we choose to go round the M25 avoiding the tunnel. It was extremely busy on our outward journey and we didn't use it.
