Apologies if I am in the wrong place.

I don't like roundabouts at the best of times even without the caravan in tow but spiral roundabouts take me to another level!

Does anyone else feel apprehensive on spirals?

I can't that I've ever heard of or seen a spiral roundabout, but looking at a video on YouTube, they look pretty straight forward.

Spiral roundabouts - that sounds like a staircase.

How about the Cornish double roundabouts? They're good at catching folk out. 😗

But they’re not so plentiful and, obviously, not so good as our proper jobs😛

Ah, I’ve got it. A spiral roundabout is just an ordinary roundabout with lane markings. I thought that was pretty normal. 🤷🏻‍♂️

We have some here in Glasgow too.  Well frequented by the learner drivers.

I quite like them. You shouldn’t in theory get anyone trying to sneak up your near side as you move across towards your exit. Although they are only any good if they replace the markings as they wear. There is an excellent example where you exit the M40 to go to the Warwick site. One visit the markings had all but worn away and there was much confusion, as the road is wider than normal to accommodate the unwinding. Didn’t know they were called spiral roundabouts  though.🙂

I must admit I had no idea what they were till you put that picture on.

But yes they are normal and quite common up here and have been for a while (although I couldn't say when I first noticed one), I can think of three just within a few miles of home.

The one I use regularly (even when towing) is straightforward, I just aim for the lane and it gets bigger.

If you want to get confused at roundabouts when not a local ,try the "magic"roundabout at Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshiresurprised

Great pics thanks Tinster👍🏻. I must admit I get mighty ticked off when I get beeped because someone on the left(of me) sticks in that lane even though they’re going for the 3rd exit & I'm going for the 2nd exit & they beep like crazy & make hand gestures because I’ve ‘cut them up’🤷🏻‍♂️. If there are markings it’ll help everyone. Or the alternative is learning how to use roundabouts👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It looks like spiral roundabouts just guide folk to do what most of us have done for years. The lane markings are using a form of diagram to explain how to use a roundabout.🙂

If it saves folk from accidents then it can’t be bad👍🏻

Spiral roundabouts are fine until there is heavy traffic, then without the road markings as a guide it's anyone's guess when and where the spiral actually begins.

There is one off the York bypass which is heavily trafficked with a lot of honking and cutting up.

Spiral lane marking just don't seem to work well if what is painted on the road surface does not correspond to where the lane leads, or the marking have worn off, or are obscured by traffic ahead.  Not to mention when the 1 in 10 who has been confused by them has to go around again!

"Up here"? Is that somewhere on high ground?

Give us a clue where you're talking about, please.

The Swindon one is actually much easier to use than it looks - mind you, I've never tried towing a van round it - or anywhere near Swindon. I mean, why would you? surprised
