Not all about money

I personally think the CMHC has a lot to learn about marketing. The KANO model explains about exciters and dissatisfiers. I’ve been a member of the ccc for just over a year and have just received an unexpected 3 month extension, in marketing they call this an exciter. Having been a member of this club for over 25 years, I’m beginning to wonder why this club isn’t doing something similar, and wonder how many other members of both clubs feel the same? When I opened the letter today, my first thought wasn’t about the money I saved, but appreciation of a fantastic gesture.

Wow, that's business speak and mostly over my head - thankfully.

The subject of membership extension has been thrashed out several times. You must have missed the threads.

It is what it is and I can't get excited about it 12 months down the road. We either accept things as they are or walk away.🤷‍♂️

I only received my CCC extension letter today?? You have sort of made my point in your reply, this club is a business and there is a risk that a few or many members will walk away eventually if dissatisfied, especially if the competition becomes more forward thinking and offering the same if not better services.

Right now KB I’m thinking both organisations have an embarrassment of riches, the local news(East Coast) has been reporting up to tripling of cost for rentals & still the ‘punters’ come. You will know it’s a supply & demand world right now demand way outstrips supply🤷🏻‍♂️. Economics rule.

The CCC extension is a welcome gesture considering that the leisure industry has had a zero normal income for prolonged periods, they've had  to survive on membership fees, cash reserves and maybe some government support. In general the club's situation has be quite resilient in comparison to other businesses but I guess there's a deficit in income to be made up.

Are the CCC reducing the VAT rate in the same manner as the CAMC. I understood this wasn’t the case. Just a few days on a site returns the equivalent of a 3 month extension.

I'm reluctant to say but personally the recent purchase of a new site by CAMC hasn't gone down  well following the vocal pleas for membership fees during lockdown and the offer of cash to those willing to purchase site vouchers in advance. And vouchers for those who graciously rejoined.

    Businesses move in mysterious ways...wink

Or maybe good business management? As many commercial sites perhaps without the financial clout of the club's have had a tight time and may have decided to exit the business. What is unfortunate for some could be a business opportunity for others. Ultimately it it a benefit for members.

They gave us an extension worth less than £6, WTG. 🤣🤣

On balance, in view of them passing on the VAT reduction and the easy and flexible booking system, I don't feel badly treated by CAMC.

The canny amongst us gave ourselves a break from membership fees. It wasn’t a hard decision given some of the Club shenanigans early in the pandemic, and I am always sceptical when a multi million pound business cries “poor us”. Multi millions of pounds will indeed have changed hands for the Carnon Downs buy out, and then there’s the ongoing fiasco of the “Club Site” in Bristol. Owning it is one thing, getting planning permission is proving a tad longer winded!🤔

At least the Club has passed on the VAT discount to Members.

Are you aware you can amend or move your C&CC booking up to 10 days in advance of arrival and there is a full refund of deposit in the event of cancellations due to COVID? I think that is fair enough.

I wanted to extend my break during the recent good weather, no chance of staying on at the C&MC site but I got a booking on a C&CC site just 12 miles away with just 3 days notice. Of the two sites, I actually preferred the C&CC for its location and ambiance to the sterile environment of the C&MC site but realise a non electric pitch and the closed facilities would not be everyones cup of tea. Nevertheless there were plenty of takers, mainly motorhomes/campervans over the weekend.

Our next trip will involve transferred deposits from C&CC last year, all ok and easy to sort. Don't know about the present situation, they didn't offer the discounted VAT until after the actual start date so forward bookings missed out previously. I can't find any details on their web site. Both clubs, swings and roundabouts as far as money is concerned.

The club offers what it offers, one can either accept it or walk way and find something better, or better suited to one's wants and wishes.

But it would appear that many are lot walking away but rather (as one serving warden has posted) joining and re-joining in spades.

There are midweek discounts on some sites but not all. In general the prices at weekends are the same as for the rest of the week within that price band. Unless you mean BH weekends?

To be fair though (said through gritted teeth) I don't know why the belief that the C&CC does not give the VAT discount has arisen. The VAT reduction is applied. The final price does account for that.

Their sites, when the age discount does not apply are dearer than I thought. I booked one for a few days in August a couple of weeks ago. It does not show any VAT figure, just a total cost. If that figure includes the reduction, it would mean the normal cost is £38.50 for a hardstanding pitch with electric, about the same as Chatsworth with normal VAT.

Clearly some C and CC members have short memories of their poor performance last year.

You had to email or write to their Call Centre, they didn't open that many of their sites, all the Camping in the Forest sites were shut and then they closed down thie European Travel Department.

As a member of both Clubs I know which one made a "fantastic gesture", as I am still using my CAMC discounted site vouchers this year.

Club have had a sort of extended loan via all those vouchers. Bought, but as predicted, only finite slots of time where they can be used, because of lockdowns. Most folks who bought will have benefitted though, if they are big users of Club Sites.

Too many members are more concerned with achieving their "long service stickers" and their perceived "bragging rights" than saving a few quid. Nothing as queer as folk. 😁

You can say that again! 🤣🤣🤣

Still, at least some folk have put their money where their mouth is by becoming members. 👍

+1 on that Tinster👍🏻, I loved my time with the C&MC but when I sold the van & went back to camping all the doors closed on me-it became a-‘you may crawl into that corner but don’t upset the natives’ so I never rejoined but if they welcomed Tenters again I’d pay anything they asked as I have a fondness for the C&MC. Sitting on the sidelines sniping isn’t very constructive, folk are either part of the solution or the problem🤷🏻‍♂️☹️
