Kyle of lochalsh roads
hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone can give me some advice, we are quite new to caravanning and my husband as driver is not that confident taking our 4berth Elldis odyssey out. We bought it two years ago second hand, but due to covid we have not taken it far. Only about 20 miles max each time we used it. We are Now planning to go to Kyle of lochalsh for 4 days as a wee break and will be leaving from Dundee.
my question is, we are fine to get to fort William, but can anyone tell me what the roads are like between fort William and say Dornie/Kyle of lochalsh area? What we don’t want yet is single track roads or lots of problem corners or anything else as I think this would stress him out quite a bit, we are still novice, and this would be our first major outing.
Any advice or suggestions would be very welcomed.

As far as I can recall the roads are fine and not single track but a map will confirm whether any of it is single track. Google Earth it if you want to see.
Consider, too, that it is the main route to the Skye Bridge so HGVs, caravans et al use it. Its not going to be a back lane.
May I suggest your husband, or you, does a caravan towing/manoeuvring course to enable you to get full enjoyment from your van.

Yes the roads to Kyle and Dornie are good. Be prepared and allow plenty of time especially if you're crossing over from Fort William/Kyle to the east coast. The roads are slower due to the scenic area. Fill up with fuel at Fort William for either direction.

Just curious .... did you ever take a towing/manoeuvring course or did you do as I did (& I suspect many others) just stick the caravan on the back & go for it? Though I had towed & manoeuvred various trailers in my youth on a farm.

Roads are fine. Even if you did find a single track bit up north, as they are main roads used by lorries and buses, the single track bits will be reasonably wide, generally have good forward visibility, and plenty of good size passing places.
