Did You Know?
Did you know about the “Approved Workshop Scheme”? This is a sub group within the National Caravan Council (NCC).
Last January (2020), I had my van habitation service carried out by my dealer who does not do Fiat engine servicing or MOT’s, so a couple of weeks later I took my van to another dealership to get the engine service and MOT. When I collected my van afterwards I was approached by the fitter who had done the work who told me that the gas pipe from the back of my gas locker to the kitchen on the other side of the van had been chaffing on the chassis and the outer sleeve was completely worn away and chaffing had started on the copper pipe. He offered to fix it for me and re-route the pipe. The van was still on the ramp so it only took him about 20 mins. He asked who did the Hab’ service and why they hadn’t picked this up.
So next day I ring my dealership and put the question to them and reminding them that this is serious safety issue. The answer came back that they don’t do anything that needs a ramp, except for Hymer vans which have to have the whole of the underside sprayed with a sealing solution. I let them know how disappointed I was and they hadn’t heard the last of this. I then contacted Swift HQ but got nowhere with them, but no surprise there. I then contacted the NCC who got a Sarah Wigmore to email me. Sarah is the Approved Workshop Scheme Manager. I fully briefed Sarah about the gas pipe and my dealers view on servicing. She was glad I had contacted her through the NCC and said she would take this case up. Sarah had a long correspondence with my dealer and finally contacted me this week to confirm that my dealer would be servicing any thing necessary on the underside of the van, including the gas system. I emailed her back to thank her and mentioned that I would be putting something on the Club blog and she was very pleased about that because so few people know about the Approved Workshop Scheme. Another tick in the box!
