Hi,

Does anyone tow with a Mercedes GLE 250d 4Matic?

Looking to change my tow car in the coming weeks and looking at this model. did look at the 350 but the 250 seems more than capable of towing my Compass 840, M.T.P.L.M 1724kgs and seems more economical when not towing. I'm looking at a 2015 model with the steel suspension. Going for one with a factory fitted tow bar which is not so easy to find but i have a couple on my radar.

Any feedback welcome.

Thanks, Greig.

A similar question was asked on a Merc forum of a E350 vs E250 .... the overall opinion was to buy the E350. Fuel consumption between the two won't be that different. The bhp/torque figures might look similar, but 6 cylinders will always be better than 4. I tow with a ML350 and it tows our twin axle MTPLM 1850kg (ish) caravan with ease. Air springs will have self levelling, I'm not sure that steel springs will 🤷‍♂️ but I can vouch for a factory tow-bar.

Thanks for the reply. It's not easy to find the right one with the factory fitted tow bar, I think there is potentially 2 x 250s available and about 1 350 -  within budget and with reasonable mileage on the clock!

I know for towing 350 will make an easier job of it, but know the 250 will be well within its limits....... decisions decisions! Just need the right one to become available!

Well, that's it, I've bit the bullet and gone for the 350d 4Matic. Just need lockdown to ease so we can get away! Roll on next Tuesday!

You know it makes sense  😉😉

Did you find a car with the options that you wanted? I just found every Merc I went to see was different in some respect from the last.

Yeah I managed to get everything really... the 350, air suspension, fully fitted electric operated tow bar, those were the 3 big ones or must haves once I decided on the GLE. Everything else are all bonuses, on cars like these the extras and standard features are plentiful, 360 cameras, cruise control, sat nav and many more, lists and lists of things.

Wasn't easy finding one though and when this one became available I bought it the same day. Hopefully turns out to be a good car! smile

Black really shows the dirt though. I was forever washing my Kuga.

But black looks nice when clean & polished  ☺.... besides black seems to be a default colour for many Merc's 😉

Black certainly does show the dirt. 18 months ago i changed from a black car to a white car and that shows the dirt just as much!

Next one will be a silver road dirt gray.wink

    I have a GLE350 that tows a Sterling Continental 570 effortlessly.
