Water hose for Motorcaravan

After caravanning for nearly 25 years we have gone over to the other side and hopefully will be taking delivery of a Elddis Accordo motorhome in March.

My question is what length of water hose is normally required for filling the fresh water tank on site?

Considering a roll flat hose for ease of storage but I know these have to be unrolled to use, so don't want to buy a excessive length

    I'd wait and see what hose is supplied with the van.

    How long? At the risk of sounding facetious, it depends how close you park to the filler tap. We carry two, a short and a long. The flat reel one was supplied with the van.

    I'll still reply here  so :-

    Like tinners, I use a hose that is a good six inches longer than the distance from the tap to the water inlet point !!

    As a good well behaved fellow I have to say that my water hose is approximately ten feet / three metres long.

    You may find that the water inlet is on the opposite side to the tap and it is not always possible to park the other way round, so a bit extra never goes amiss. I have a coil of 7metres semi-hard blue plastic plus one of those "stretchy" hoses.

    Also like to suggest you get a large-capacity plastic watering can. When on site and you just want a top-up without going off your pitch, a couple of trips to the nearest tap can add 20 litres or so. The water is only in there for a few minutes so don't worry if you can't get a food-standard white plastic one..

    Hi DrC.  Although we are caravanners, we use a lot of serviced pitches these days and so we use flat hoses to connect to the tap on the pitch.  The length required does vary between pitches and sites, so to get around this we use multiple lengths of 5 metres..... see photo.  The further away we are from the tap the more lengths we fit together.  We keep each 5m length on a spool.  Hope this is of some use....

    drc, the length of your hose should reflect the type of motorhoming you do. For example, use modern CMC sites and usually you can get away with a shorter hose than if you use some CLs or unknown commercial sites.

    I would recommend something like 15m food grade flat hose split into two thirds, on the reel, and one third just stuffed in a bag. Get a connector such as those by Hozelock which enable you to link both hoses together for when a very long hose is required.

    You also need to consider the weight of the water you carry, Our loading margin is such that we often carry only 30l of water, which is three trips to the water point using a Colapz 'watering can'. We rarely use a hose on a CMC site.
