Caravan roll out awning
hi I’m getting a new coachman caravan and I’m thinking of getting a rollout awning possibly about a 350 with sides just wondering by leaving it in the awning rail all the time would the weight damage the seals around the panels coursing rain to get in to the van

When we caravanned we use Caravanstore awnings on a couple of vans with no apparent problems. We found them very convenient.

Also used them on both our caravans over 15 years. Left on from March to November. The first van was old style construction with a standard awning rail. The second Bailey Alutech construction, where the awning rail is part of the section that holds the sides to the roof. We had no problems with either van.

Had a Caravanstore on a Swift caravan for several years travelled thousands of miles across Europe and never had a problem with the awning.

We have purchased a 3.0M Thule Omnistor 1200 for our caravan and haven't actually used it yet. We fitted it and tested it but await the pleasure of using it until next year. On our Swift the awning light hindered the way the bag rested so I have lowered the light. We intend to purchase a sunblocker side panel in Spring. For the OP, having seen the imense strength of the bonded awning rail when a section of ours on the previous caravan was accident damaged, we are not concerned about the strength of the awning rail at all.

I imagine that a roll-out awning such as the Caravanstore could invalidate warranty particularly if there was damp ingress.
We had a fixed Fiamma awning on the side of our Bailey Unicorn (which Bailey allowed) but there were reported problems of sealing which cased water to run down the side of the van- not an ingress problem, just a nuisance. For this reason you often see these fixed units (such as on motorhomes) fitted on the roof although this makes them quite high for operating the winder mechanism.

I bought a Fiamma Caravanstore for my Adria and have toured thousands of miles with it in situ. One tip someone gave me was to travel with it on the roof, instead of hanging on the side. I didn't bother and there's no problems with the caravan, but the quality of the bag the canopy sits in is very poor. It only lasted 5 years and has now rendered the canopy useless.

We had a Rolli Elite awning in a bag.
Very easy to erect and take down BUT, it suffered from pooling on the roof every time it rained, even a slight shower would leave a puddle on it. Even setting the legs so as to leave a slope wouldn't stop it.
We then found damp starting to appear just along the top of the wall inside where the awning hung.
Took it straight off and flogged it on EBay.
